Hello! I'm sorry you're going through such a tough time right now. I am a 4 year cervical cancer survivor - diagnosed at age 36 with Stage 1B2. Although, I think they found it was worse when they did surgery. The cancer had spread to the lymph system. I had a radical hysterectomy, chemo and radiation. Now, at age 40, so far so good. No reoccurance (yet). Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you. It would have helped me a lot if I had someone to let me know what I was in for (from a patient's point of view). My email is rwilson002@comcast.net

    Hi,
in 2004 I had a radical Hysterectomy, with Radiation exterior and internal.
Now in July 2006 I have to get a Radical Vaginectomy, because a Pap Test showed Cancer Cells. Has anyone information of what I have to expect?

didn't know you still needed pap tests after a hysterectomy. What's a vaginectomy?

I am glad I had a Pap smear after the Hysterectomy. Otherwise they would not have found the additional cancer.
Removal of the Vagina is the area in the lower section of the pelvic.

so, I should still have regular paps after my surgery then?

absolutely - you should still be getting pap smears - keep in mind though they will never really come back "normal" again- becausea of scar tissue, radation scar tissue etc.... but I now have had 2 come back with high grade cancer cells present and had to have laser surgery and now we are discussing a vaginectomy- still not quite sure how that works???? he said they could reconstruct a vagina???
