I got basic scan results y'day. Shrinkage of liver mets and increased lung nodule activity, will get more accurate info next week from Onc. Just recd patrick quillans book. Question for stage 4 survivors. I know that some of you were able to have surgery for mets, some of you achievedNED through Chemo and or Radiation and monoclonal therapies. Avastin worked for a while I think in containing liver met, but all along lung mets were thriving. At a cost of 2000 euro a go, for 20 sessions, its a lot of money. Stats say that it improves life length by 5 months. Thats a lot for the patient, but considering the cost, I don,t think drug manufacuturer (is it roche) is offering good value for money. Anyways, my question to those 5 year plus survivors is did you radically change your lifestyle, through diet, or "alternative therapies"
Apologies for long windedness.

Any replies greatly appreciated.

love and kindness

Margo, Stage II here, I'll keep it short.
Have you contacted Roche and see if they can help with cost? Sometimes will waive, if working. Worth a try. I did change eating...much more fresh stuff, no artif. sweetener, etc.
Keep the faith, dear. I'm pulling for you.

Is avastin not covered by VHI? If not- thought that avastin and erbitux were given free of charge to all patients? Hang in there.

    Thinking of you.

    Hi Margo,
I am a Stage IV survivor. My last surgery was 1 1/2 years ago although I was diagnosed 4 years ago. I had mets to the liver (one) and two mets to my right lung which were able to be removed surgically. After the discovery of the liver met I had chemo but later, after the discovery of the lung mets I only had surgery. Rather than repeating everything, please read through the post entitiled "nutrition" that is also from today....I would say that many of the Stage IV survivors on this site are on nutritional supplements, do not eat refined sugars, exercise, and have tried any number of alternative therapy. I go to massage regularly and have also done acupuncture. Your post is not long winded! You should see some of the other ones. Hopefully you can read up about all this stuff and get a variety of opinions....I am not saying you should not continue your Avastin, I have not had Avastin so I cannot say much about it. At least nutrition is one thing that you can take control of...
Let us know if you have any other questions!,
    Susan.

Can I just clarify that I did not have to pay fro the Avastin and that it was Oncs decision to stop it. My point was that whoever paid for it, it is just so exhorbitantly expensive.

In the US, Avastin is "cheap" at $5,000.00 per dose compared to Oxilaplatin's $15,000.00 per dose. Remember, this really has nothing to do with our health and wellness, it is all about somebody making money.

If they really cared about our health, all the researchers would be working on preventing cancer instead of spending the billions of dollars on new drugs. There is too much money to be made on sickness and the ole US of A is leading the way!!!!!!!!!
