edited March 2014 in Ovarian Cancer #1
A postmenopausal woman 52 with history of fibroids and hysterectomy 20 years ago with right ovary left intact. Symptoms two years - bloating, pressure, bowel problems, urinary problems, hematuria. Tentative and varied diagnoses over 2 years include irritable bowel, colitis, urinary problems and lots of tests mostly bowel/urinary tract - but nothing ever definite or so I am told. Recent stomach distension worsening and waist ever enlarging! Then urinary follow up yet again results (finally - 1st one since reporting symptoms) in CT scan on 10/31/05. Physician (new) makes no contact with me - finally I call him this week for appointment. The last time I called he couldn't find film although I hand carried to him same day and said he would get back to me if there was a problem. I finally got an appointment last Monday. He handed me film and report and told me to find a gyn (new to this city) and I don't need to come back to him as I have no urinary tract problems. I read CT report in elevator leaving building: it says "mass with small focal calcification and low density component in lower right abdomen AND 4mm pulmonary mass in lower right quadrant." I am falling apart...after searching internet for information I will make an appointment with gyn oncologist. I am still hoping this is not what it seems to be...waiting for gyn onocolgist to call me back and can't sleep tonight. Can anyone allay my worst fears?

Your story and symtoms sound so close to home. I can not believe your Dr didn't refer you and get you in fast. Hopefully these are just benign growths and your fears are just that fears. When is your appointment? You have found a place that will give you much support.

    Prayers and Hugs Bonnie

As Bonnie, I'm sending prayers and hugs your way. I don't understand your doctor's position either, but we certainly understand how you feel - and rightfully so. Please keep us informed.

    Thank you Bonnie and Monica,
I called a local hospital cancer hotline and the nurse was very supportive and helpful. She gave the name of two gyn oncologists and I have an appointment with one for 2/9. I have one other name and will see if I can get in sooner. I really appreciate your response to me and I will let you know what I find out. I am going to be more assertive from here on out and not just "hope for the best". On the other hand I won't expect the worse either. Have a very good day. Thank you for being there. Patty
