Wonderful News For Christmas

Hello Everyone,

My Dad got the results of his latest scans this morning. The Camptosar/Erbitux combo has succeeded in making some of the spots disappear and the rest of them show signs of continuing to shrink. The Dr. is going to keep him on this current treatment plan until everything has disappeared or plateauted. At that time he will switch to a maintenance schedule of camptosar once every 6 weeks and erbitux once every 3 weeks. I'm not sure I'm happy with that schedule. I think that as long as what we are doing now is working and not causing my Dad any side effects, we should just continue the way we are. I'm afraid that reducing any level of treatment will give the cancer a chance to fight back. But I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. I'm just so grateful that we have good news for Christmas. My granddaughter just turned 1 a few weeks ago and my father is very excited about Christmas with her this year.

I wish for everyone on this board to have good news for Christmas and every day after.

    Deneen - That's great news about your father - I'm happy for you both.

    Regarding the change in chemo schedule, it is scary when something is working, but there is a lot of evidence that says you don't want to beat colorectal patients into the ground along with the cancer. Chemo "breaks" and changes to a maintenance schedule are part of that.

    Great news, Deneen. It is always scary when any treatment regimen is changed. It's great that your father is responding so well to his treatment with minimal side effects.

    What wonderful news! Congratulations and hoorah! Have a great Christmas together. I don't know much about changing the chemo/drugs like that. I'd just enourage you to question/probe the doc until you get satisfactory answers....that you feel comfortable with. He/she can probably explain and provide a comforting rationale....
