CT results

Hello, gang.

I haven't posted much lately because this infection has laid me low. I completed my FINAL treatment of FOLFOX with Avastin a week ago last Tuesday and had my CT scan on Tuesday of this week. After 7 months of chemo, I have one new nodule in the lining of my abdomen. No idea what it is yet, but I don't like the sound of it. If the cancer can hang in there and start growing even with all the chemo we've been throwing at it, I don't have a lot of confidence that it will shrivel up and die now that chemo is over. On the other hand, maybe this nodule is nothing and I'm perfectly fine. Can't say at this point, but you know how it is - you start wondering if ANY ache or pain or nodule is caused by cancer once you've had the dx.

I will see my oncologist on Tuesday and see what he thinks of this thing and whether more tests are indicated at this time. Perhaps a PET scan?? Would that show if the nodule has any malignancy?? IN the meantime, I continue with Avastin alone every other week for another 6 months, at least, and am hoping that this infection and all these fungal things clear up once and for all so that I can start to feel stronger.

    Hello Bonny.

    I can certainly understand that you are worried about this nodule, and especially when you are dealing with an infection. This cancer business is so stressful. I think a PET scan is more conclusive than a CT scan. From what I understand (which ain't much!) things like scar tissue can show up on CT scans and get us all worried. When I was first diagnosed, there was a nodule on my left lung visible in a CT scan and we thought it was cancer. One PET scan later, they determined that it was not cancer. And also, PET scans show cancer but inflammation can create a false positive result. I had "questionable activity" in my last PET scan which turned out to be inflammation.

    My only point is that the nodule may turn out to be something harmless, and that is a reason for hope. Still, I know it must be worrisome for you.

    Hi Bonny,
    Congratulations on finishing up the FOLFOX, especially with the difficulties of your infection.
    Sorry to hear about the nodule. I'm sure it is frightening and discouraging. But, it could be non-malignant.
    My understanding (and I am not a doc!) is that PET may be able to indicate whether it is cancer or not -- but only if it is 1 cm or larger. I hope your meeting with your oncologist on Tues is helpful. Please keep us posted.

    How are you doing. What did you and oncologist decide re-chemotherapy treatment? How are ths studies going?
