I don't know if 5FU has steroids but I do know that to help combat nausea I was given a steroid called Decadron (sp?) through the IV.

    Hi Ramona,

I don't believe 5FU or oxaliplatin are steroids--they are different classes of drugs.

Was the number of replies to your weight gain question a new record? 25 replies!

I was always given a dose of steroids with my 5 FU and Oxaliplatin to help it perform better (or so that is what the onc. nurse said) I don't thing the drugs themselves are steriods!!

    Hi Ramona,

I was given Decadron (Dexamethasone - sp) within the IV of my Oxaliplatin/Leucovorin. My 5FU was given as a bolus and then a slow infusion. I was prescribed Decadron- which worked in conjunction with my anti-anusea drug (EMEND). The steroid was used as part of the anti-nausea mix - and was indiccated withint he package insert of the EMEND......so, a long drawn out answer...I did always receive steroids with my 5FU!

Let me know if you have any other questions. I just finished chemo, but would be happy to call my office for you.

    Cheers,
    Maura
