I have blood in my stool again. I went to the surgeon today and have to go back on Tuesday. I think they are going to schedule a colonoscopy. I have had trouble w/constipation too. This is really unnerving, I am 1 month shy of 3 and 1/2 years NED.
I am sorry for being a whiner. I figured no one would understand as well as you though. Thanks for the ears.

You are NOT bring a whiner! and have every right to be upset. Let us hope it is nothing serious....a colonoscopy will determine what is going on. I understand your being upset as the longer you go without a recurrence, the more you feel like it may not come back. My husband has just passed his 21 month CEA test and we are so relieved but he says he can never relax as there is always the fear that the cancer will return. I think the longer one goes without a recurrence the harder it might be to deal with one, if and when it does happen. I wonder how others feel about that?

    Keep us updated. Good luck!

This is the place to share our fears and frustrations. I think anytime anything is out of the ordinary now we jump to thinking it's cancer because of what we've been through. There are a number of things which can cause blood in stool so take it one step at a time. You're doing the right thing with the colonscopy. Good luck. Let us now how it turns out.

    Ali,
I know how your husband feels and I'm only 5 months into this thing. At a follow-up last month (CT, blood work) everything was ok so I should have been happy but was somewhat numb (my wife was very happy and couldn't understand why I wasn't). When I have feelings like that, or start to wonder if it will come back I remind myself that I need to live each day as it comes and to the fullest (I'm still learning to do this).

    Hi Taunya,

I am sure you are scared shitless (or should I say spitless). After what you have gone thru it could just be your bowels cleansing themselves. Do you eat yogurt or any other probiotics things. They actually help with healthy bacteria in your colon that then helps "move things along" that had been "detained too long". Getting the gunk out of the ole pipes is a good thing.

Keep us posted and don't worry too much. You have been NED so long, I am sure it is just your body doing it's spring cleaning. I bet you have been working in your yard and gardens and eating a little better lately and that really helps.

    Hugs, Lisa P.

Eeek! I will be thinking of you and praying for a simple hemorrhoid.

I agree with the others - you are NOT a whiner, don't be silly.

The CSN ears are always here. Take care. jana

    Hi Taunya,
It is 100% normal to feel nervous under these circumstances. I'm glad you came to us. I'm sorry you now have a long wait until Tuesday. Maybe you can try repeating my favourite Waiting Mantra: "Feed the faith, starve the doubt". Please keep us posted -- we are behind you and with you.

    Hi Taunya,
There really are so many things that cause bleeding that it's pointless to do anything but wait for the colonoscopy. I have a feeling you will be just fine, but I certainly can understand how it scares the s*it (please fill in p or h) out of you, too. It does me.
If you are "whining" what are the rest of us doing as well? There's no such thing here.

Good luck!! Have fun with the prep...ask for the pills if you can get them.

Hiya Taunya.....you say that you are having trouble with being constipated? Trying to pass bricks is a sure way to get a bleeding problem and hopefully sweetie that is all it is. I agree with Jana. A possible haemaroid(never could spell tha word) problem can very well be caused by straining. My doc told me we all have veins in our "posterior" that at times flair up and cause bleeding, not always detectable via a simple digital, visual, or sigmoidoscopy. Sometimes they just are not able to see a blood vssel causing the problem. Also consider that anal fissures also can cause bleeding usually after continuous straining when constipated. The cause may be as simple as that sweetie. Nonetheless, a colonoscopy may well put your mind at rest and worth the unsavoury "drinking of that foul brew.".
Hey, don't ever think you are a whinger babe....I admit I would be worried too. Just try not to jump the river before the bridge is built Taunya.
Our prayers are with you, luv n huggs, kanga n Jen

Once again, you guys rush in and save the day! Thank you so much for the support. I had a hard time sleeping, but I got up and re-read the posts and I feel better. The Doc has given me hemorrhoid meds and wants me to return on Tuesday. I am betting on the colonoscopy. You are right, Kanga & Jen, peace of mind is worth the downing of the "foul brew"!
Lisa, I had a bout with the flu and a sinus infection about four weeks ago and the Doc gave me hideously strong antibioitcs (I could only take them for ten days, they suggested 21!) I eat a lot of yoghurt and fiber and watch the processed dtuff carefully. I also work out 3-4 times a week. I am having a LOT of stress from my job and have been for the past year. That may have something to do with it.
It is just so doggone scary, because these are the same symptoms I had with the cancer.

Ali, Howard, Jana, John, Tara, Kanga, Jen, Lisa and Maura, I will have all of your thoughts in my pocket today(smile).

    Hey there, Taunya -

Like so many have suggested, there could be any number of reasons for the blood - especially if you are having problems with constipation.

The good news is that you are going in for a scope to make sure nothing is going on and put your mind at ease! A wise decision!!

I do know exactly how you feel - I went through the same thing a few months ago myself. They found a couple of bleeding polyps and zapped them. I'm on an annual scope regime now for the rest of my days. Thanks heaven I have finally mastered taking the Fleets (1:1 mix with margarita mix!! - seriously - just make sure both the fleets and the mix are really cold).

    Keep us posted...

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
