Today I had an MRI. It came back clean with no evidence of Cancer Now they want me to have a PET Scan. Is this unusual after treatment is completed and the MRI comes out clean? My Doctor assured me that he was very happy with the results of my treatment and the outcome of the MRI. Also, I have to be sedated during an MRI(Claustophopia) so the Radiologist said that I moved a bit during the scan, but my Doctor seemed to be able to read the scan clearly. That same radiologist is the one who suggested the PET Scan. Can anyone tell me if this is a usual procedure and if it is beneficial to have the PET Scan done. I do have an appt for one on Thursday My Doctor also reassured me that I should not be concerned about anything and that he was very happy. thanks... Joe

PET scan after an MRI is Ok, I have them the same day. The radiologist is an expert in reading an MRI, if he says you moved its because you moved and it shows in the pics. The radiologist reads the MRI and sends results to your doctor. A PET scan shows a clearer picture with some cancers. Having a PET scan after an MRI is not unusual; it could be beneficial in that it would show a clearer picture.
