hi all wanted to say thanks for all the kind words and prayers since i posted about my surgery. i had a tumor removed from my rectum. i was in the hospital for 8 days. the surgeon dr.khoo (who is wonderful) says he got it all. I didnt have to have a colostemy bag as i thought i would ..was even marked for one a couple of days before the surgery. no cancer has spread to my organs. and i found out i was in stage b2. not sure if i am going to have chemo or not. doc said not to worry bout that yet. will see an oncologist after my recovery. have been able to go to bathroom and no problems. so many things turned out better than i first thought. it has been rough and am glad to be home. but i have been so blessed. am still amazed. i get my staples out tomorrow am sure that will be painful but i am ready for them to say bye bye. i have 32 staples in from the top of my belly button to the top of my pubic area. thanks again for the well wishes and good thought and words. i am hanging in and feeling better all the time.. love and peace.. Ramona.. just remember in the end it will all be okay..and if its not okay then its not the end..

Hiya Ramona--I am truly happy that you are on the way to recovery.Your op. was very similar to mine and so we are on some very common ground.I would be fairly surprised if you were not offered chemo as I think now in most cases the chemo is used as a added precaution to knock over any cells that may have been missed during surgery.Much of that depends on the extent of the invasion of your cancer into the bowel wall.I too was warned that a colostomy may be needed but fortunately I escaped that too.Make sure you stick to your surgeons advice re; activities etc. as you will find it does take time for your tummy muscles to heal.I am just now celebrating my 1st anniversary out from my surgery(aug.7 03) and am still finding that the tummy muscles are still not quite strong--but I was tols it could take up to 12 months to get back to normal.
If you have any problems or queries let me know.
Take it easy for a time Ramona,
luv n huggs kanga n Jen

Hi Ramona. You could have just switched your name for my name on this post. I had the exact same surgery, 8 days in the hospital, got it all, but I had 31 staples. I guess you win on that one. The removal of the staples wasn't that bad. I had him ( the doc) stop once just so I could regroup. It went really fast. I am now 7 weeks post-op and feel almost "normal". Fast great recovery! I wish you the same and God bless.

I do have to have more chemo ( as a preventative?) starting in 3 hours! Ugh.

I'm so glad to hear about these quick recoveries. My own recovery was much slower, but I'm blaming that on how sick I was before surgery. I lost so much weight and was so terribly anemic that I was barely alive. It took me 8 weeks before I could go back to work. And 6 months before I could wear clothes other than moo moos. But I am at my 1 year anniversary and feeling better than I have in years.
Also, I was depressed (more physical than anything) But a friend demanded that I tell my PC doc and he put me on anti-depressants that helped me gain weight. I only needed them for a month? Maybe two, but I gained weight and the will to live. Oh, on a good note, my chemo was a piece of cake. take care all.
