Hi Gang! First let me say I have recieved a good number of responses to a Discussion Board Topic.."Young Single Survivors".. keep up the good work everyone by posting your comments and sending emails to the the Administrators! Thanks for your support!...
Now... I have read many posts from men and women about feeling guilty for wanting to share life with a special someone. They have family. They have friends. So why arent they satified.. why do they feel like they are missing out? Well, First of all... if all of us were content with family and friends... not many people would get married and not many children born, and this whole cylce would probably end quickly!.. But we were made to desire that special person. It starts with the desire to love someone and want to share life with someone.. then we meet that special someone and fall in love, and on and on..... It is normal. It is the way we were created by God. So, dont feel guilty about missing that someone. However, it is also good to have the mind set that we WANT that special someone... but we dont NEED that special someone. Thats the confusion I think. Also... for some reason, we put on ourselves, or we let others put on us... that since we had cancer... we are supposed to act and live like Pure Models of Right. Cancer did not change our humanity or take our strengths or weaknesses. We are still fallable humans. We all have strengths and we all have weaknesses. And we all have power within us to help each other... and we all have gifts to offer to those in our little corner of the world. So, toss those guilty feelings out the window! Those feelings can do us NO good!
Have a great day everyone!
-Michael

    Hola Miguel!
I got a great Idea for a commercial! here goes!

    Commercial:
(narration) This is your brain (shows egg)

(narration) This is your brain after chemo and radiation (shows scrambled eggs)

Any questions?...besides asking, "can I have a slice of toast with that?", or...for our south of the border friends, "a tortilla and salsa?"

:-P I know, I know...not that great of a laugh, but what you expect after a 6 hr drive and a 3 hr meeting w/ high school Kids! :-) NE how...jus laugh at the fact i'm a big goof! :-P

MC thanks for bein so helpful with all of us....but u know how it is. I mean we all know u just want a date with me j/k. None of us are here to pick people up we just want to talk to those that understand! and well a young single survivors discussion can help us to find one thing we need. It can help everyone to know how to approach surviving cancer and finding out how to approach that on dates or in relationships or what not even if it was young single survivors and relationships so that those who have those in their lives and are young can help too because they were and are in our situation. Thanks for everything Michael..... this is probably one of the harder topics because I think after talking with many other young people like me it starts that u just dont feel u fit in because its hard to see that u have changed in some ways rather than ur life and all. My life took a major change and that forced me to change and I hadnt felt I fit in but I found that accepting that I was different and not my life was key. Dating is my major issue I let friends go through my battles this past because I knew that if they couldnt be there for me then they did not deserve to be in my life. It was easier for me because I understood that many people can not deal with these kinds of things and if they cant give me what I need in a friend then they are not one. But relationships are the hardest part and finding out how to approach it because everyone is different and some people it could be easier to tell right away and others not. Its hard to know what to do so I am hoping that we can get this discussion topic up and running.

    Hey Kristin...
How did you know I want a date!?!?!.... Was it because you caught me parked across the street from your house ... in my old, black, oxidized van with dark tinted windows... peeking in your room with binoculars?? hehe..... Seriously Kristin, you have brought up two important aspects of single survivorship. Trying to be accepted among our peers and to be accepted in an intimate relationship. I believe these are common concerns and with a Single Survivor Section many of us in the same boat can vent to, share with, and support each other. THank you for your input K and will see ya in chat! Hasta later crocodile ;)

    Kristin and Mike-

You guys are both nuts...hahahaha!But then again i have no room to talk so i'll hush. Yet i think it's great that you guys want to start a place for single cancer survivors to go to. When you're young, everything changes. I'm in a relationship currently, but it wasn't easy to find him, at all. But i hope i'm still invited to the room!:-( HAHA. But seriously you guys, i hope this room thing works it would be great. Talk to you kids later!
