My daughter, 11, was diag with osteosarcoma in her right humerous. We are still going over the options for surgery and was hoping to get input on which way to go. There are pros and cons to both the cadaver and metal rod, but personal experience would be very helpful. Also anyone out there have a hard time clearing the methotrexate? If so, what was done?
Thanks, Tina mom to Kristina,11

    Hi,
I just joined this site today and saw your message. I am sure you have already made your decision but I just wanted to let you know that when I was 14 I too had osteosarcoma in my right humerous. I had surgery, in which they used a cadaver bone and a metal rod. I am now 11 and 1/2 off treatment and everything is good. I have pain, well discomfort, in my arm daily but it is my arm and it is functional and the discomforat doesn't stop me from doing anything I want to do. If you want to ask me anything about my experience, send me an email. I always found it important to talk to survivors when I was going through treatment. parkinsonnikki@hotmail.com
Hope all is well, Nikki Parkinson

For anyone else who is wondering about this surgery, I had to have surgery on my right proximal humerus at age 28 for parosteal osteosarcoma. The surgeon used a metal rod and surrounded it with a cadaver bone. This gave me the benefits of getting rid of all the cancer while having a bone that will hopefully connect with my bone and provide extra stability. So far, it's been over a year, and things are going pretty well. I deal with pain, but there is no evidence of problems with the endoprosthesis or the cadaver bone.

You can read more about the surgery and see a picture of my x-ray at

    God bless.
