new diagnosis

Help! I am only 26 years old and I have no children. I only had a D+C because of abnormal bleeding. Previously diagnosed with endometriosis and PCOD. The doctor wants to do a hysterectomy next week. Any suggestions? Is any one else getting this disease 20 years too early?

My suggestion is to GET A SECOND OPINION before you have any surgery. ANY woman of any age can get uterine cancer.

Perhaps you already know that Uterine cancer and endometrial cancer mean the same thing. This is because most uterine cancer starts in the endometrium (the inner lining of the womb). After breast cancer, it is the most common cancer of the female reproductive system.

There is no good screening test to find uterine cancer in its early stages. If you're concerned about uterine cancer, I would talk to a second doctor about your risk and whatever testing that has taken place. Ask the first doctor to provide you with copies of all of your records to take to this doctor for a second opinion.

Good book to read about surviving Uterine cancer is called Cancer Schmancer by Fran Drescher who played the Nanny in the television series.

This is such an important decision for you to make at your age that I strongly suggest you get that second opinion.

Please let me know if I can help further.

Birkner says it all-get a second opinion, and any woman can have uterine cancer, regardless of age. Has your doctor discussed surgical menopause with you? If they remove your ovaries and uterus, you'll have it. Good luck to you!

    Hello -

I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis - I cannot offer any suggestions - But I am writing, because I am experiencing midcycle and premenstrual spotting, my doctor keeps telling me this is just normal and to ignore it. Can you tell me what your symptoms were? (I am 27 as well)

    Thanks,
    Vanessa

Get a new doctor. I am only 29 and have been having serious problems since 2000. My docotor kept telling me not to worry. Whenever my paps would come back abnormal she always said that it was an infection. She also said that my severe cramping and bleeding was normal. After four years of this she finally decided to do a colcoposcopy.(thats where they look to see if you have any abnormal cells) She found two areas of concern and biopsied them. She then told the biopsy was inconclusive and to come back in six months for a new pap. She offered to referre me to a specialist and THANK GOD I went. He did a cone biopsy and a biopsy of my uterus and I have a high grade uterine and cervical cancer. I have to have a hysterectomy and pray that it hasn't spread.
Please for your own sake go and see a different doctor. You are never to young to get cancer and good doctors are few and far between.
    Good luck and God bless.

You say something bout surgical menopause... I am over a yr from my total histerectomy, everything uterus, tubes, ovaries, and cervix, completely gone. I have not had any of the "menopause symptoms" hot flashes, night sweats... ect... as yet.
I also agree that a second opinion is the best. I had problems and hemmoraged, landed in the ER, had a D&C.. path told cancer... my OB GYN/ONC was the best. Even called me back himself when I called the office with questions. I say this cause there are a few Drs that really care!

I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer following a path report on my D and C. I am 36 years old and did not have any of the risk factors associated with this type of cancer.

i just got diagnosed last week and i'm scheduled for a total hysterectomy on january 3. my biggest question/concern is i'm having my regular doctor do it because i think that would be fastest and we live in a small town. she's a ob/gyn but not an oncolygist. she said she doesn't do the lymph nodes and that concerns me, but i want this out FAST. she said the pathology from the D&C indicated stage 1, but i know they can't know for sure till after the hysterectomy. i'm thinking of seeing an oncolygist after that on a consult basis. am i making sense? there are no oncolygists in my town - i would have to travel 100 miles and my partner has a seizure disorder, so no driving. we're new here and don't have many friends. anyway. i guess i'm trying to explain my reasoning. i'd rather work with an oncolygist, i just don't want to wait.
anyway. did anyone else here have their ob/gyn do their hysterectomy?
    thanks for any comments/perspecive.
