Hello, My cousin who is like a sister to me was just diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer. They told her husband that she had a blockage and they couldn't operate because the cancer would spread and she would die in a few days. They have a pump that is draining her stomach of blood. They are sending her home and the doctors said she only has 3 weeks to live. We are all in shock. She was vomiting and has a distended stomach. They are feeding her by infusion, I think it is that TPN, that I read about here. I can't believe that this is happening. I have read about so many people having operations, I don't understand why they can't operate. I am in dinial. I can't believe that someone can't help her. She had breast cancer 18 years ago and then a year ago it came back in the lining of her lungs and now this. I was just hoping someone could tell me something more about this disease. Thank you, Sharron

Sharon: I am so sorry for what you are going through with your close cousin. I am afraid I cannot tell you any more about this disease, only that we'll keep you and your cousin in our prayers. I'm a firm believer that when bad things happen to people we love, it is often harder on those of us that love that person, than it is on the person who is affected. Please take care of yourself and keep reaching out for support as you go through this with your cousin.

    Hi Sharon,
I'm so sorry for what you are going through and I believe that it is something that we'll all be going through eventually. Stomach cancer doesn't have a good ending. my mother will start her new chemo tomorrow. that is eloxatin which is FDA approved for rectal/colon cancer, the doctor says he has high hopes but I know it is a last stitch effort. i always have hope.God be with you and your family I know it has been at least 10 days since your message has been posted i will pray for you. Please email and let me know how it is going.
    Sincerely
    Maryann

    Sharon,

The prognosis for advanced stomach cancer is not good, but what would it hurt to get a second opinion? Some doctors fight more agressively than others. And, if you hear the same thing from two docs it may make you feel more confident in what they are saying. This is a difficult time for you. Know you are upheld by the prayers of others.
