Waiting on diagnosis

I went in to the doctor who said "I can't tell you not to worry. You probably need a biopsy. I'm sending you to whichever specialist can see you first." That was yesterday. I see the next doctor in 5 more days. Another wait, then the biopsy. Another wait, then the diagnosis. Meanwhile, I learn what I can and try hard not to panic. Can't see telling anyone -- would just be asking them to share the waiting and it may all be for nothing. But I'm really scared. Trying all the whistling in the dark I know--working, praying, learning. Anyone else have tips on getting through the waiting? Thanks!

strong, what a great name to go by I too just went through the waiting thing but, I found out I
had it in my tounge then move to my nodes in my neck. That's not to say that everything will be ok
for you in the meantime put your FAITH IN GOD he will give you the courage to get though this time in your life. God Bless Kstevens

I used the line from a Tom Petty song "the waiting is the hardest part". Every step on my 6 month journey with cancer had what seemed like intolerable waiting periods (I had at least 7 diagnosis related events that had a waiting period of a week or more--I am sure you can relate how long a week is when you are waiting for news about cancer). In my case, what gave me peace of mind was the comfort of family and friends and a renewal of my faith in God. I did not do extensive research because what I found was so depressing. I prayed alot and that helped too. I also stayed busy with my job to try and keep my mind from wandering too far off track. I had stage 3 carcinoma at the base of tongue and in my lymph nodes. I had 39 radiation treatments and four rounds of chemo and about a million prayers offered on my behalf. That combination yielded me to be declared cancer free last week. Have faith because miracles do happen and prayers are answered.

You need to see a good ear, nose and throat specialist. He should schedule an MRI. If its positive, an endoscopic exam and biopsy is needed. Hopefully it will not be positive. If it is, find a good oncologist. Radiation and chemo left me tumor free for almost the last 2 years. If you need more info, contact me at mwhf@bellsouth.net. Good luck.

Waiting is the worst part. I remember being terrified of the possible news and completely powerless to do anything about it. I researched endlessly - scaring myself even more - and tried to focus on the immediate things around me. You have perfect right to be scared, but don't do it alone. Tell at least two people of your situation and let them talk it through with you. You cannot do this alone, so don't get in the habit. You can do whatever needs to be done. My news was terrible, stage 4 cancer, already spreading, main tumor too big to remove, etc. I am still alive and kicking. Write to me directly if you like t4jackson@hotmail.com. Good luck to you.
