Marty's Monday Mastectomy!

Oh Boy! Here we go... After numerous bumps in the road (pun intended), we are ready for the mast. & tramflap Monday. (Nearly 2 months to the day since the tumour was removed during biopsy)
We'll be putting a port in as well and taking the first layer of lymph nodes... here is to NEGATIVE LYMPH NODES!
I am now getting nervous. *smiles*

They think I'll be in the hospital for 3-5 days.. hope my drains will be out before I come home! *grin*

Wish there was some way to contact everyone while I am in... will have to wait 'til I am home and up and around, ready to type left-handed for a while!

Truly, I cannot thank all of you here. The vocal and the silent. You've taught me so much and I shall do my best to help those who come after me as you've all done...

Any positive thoughts, prayers, healing energies available for this 7-8 hr surgery (eek!) on Monday (7.30a EST) for my surgical staff and m'self will be greatly, greatly appreciated!

    Hi Marty, know what you are going to face ahead on monday, at least you are having it done all in one step, I waited 1 year in between. Never sorry I did the Tram Flap. I hope your Doc keeps you in the hospital for 5 days, I stayed, the drains were out by that time. One less thing to bother with. I will be thinking of you, keep you in my thoughts and prayers and wish you all the best. You have made it this far, all will go well. Keep us posted and think positive. We will be awaiting your good news after the surgery. Lots of hugs and prayers coming your way.....Love Emmi

    Hi Marty!. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I had a mastectomy and Tram Flap recon in Sept. 2000. It was much easier than I thought it would be. I was in the OR for 6 1/2 hours. I stayed in the hosp. from Mon.-Fri AM. I was allowed up on Wed. AM and went right to the bathroom, leaned my head over the sink and had my hair washed! The pain was totally managable! I used my arm right away! That's the best thing you can do! I never had major limitations and the little limitation I had was gone fast cause I went to PT> I was playing tennis in 7 weeks!(It was my right breast and I'm right handed!)The chances of the drains being out before you go home are slim. I had 2 in my abdomen and 2 in my armpit. They were more of a nuisance than painful. Having them removed is uncomfortable but fast! The best part of the Tram Flap is the Tummy Tuck! Take care. Good luck! Let us know how things go when you feel up to it. Remember, the pain should be controlled. Tell them if you'r hurting! They can adjust the meds! HUGS!! Cathy

    Hehehe, I should have titled it "Marty's Monday Mastectomy in Michigan!" We are in SE Michigan. Thanks for the good stuff!

    Thank you Cathy! I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to hear such things from people! Makes it so much less scary, I feel as if I have a grip on what is really going to happen.

    Hi Marty,
    My thoughts and prayers will be with you as you go for your surgery.I was in the hospital three weeks in a row but I didn't have reconstuction.It is a long story you can read my web page if you like. Take it easy and take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing.

    Hi Marty I had same procedure done on March 27th. No regrets it was the best thing I could have done. Flattest tummy I've had since my oldest daughter was born 19 years ago!Good luck on Monday, keep us posted

    Your attitude is wonderful...positive and strong! In that, I'd say you already have much of what you need to get through your surgery well!!! So, I'd like to add a warm hug and tell you that I'm also sending loads of positive thoughts and good feelings your way and look forward to updates as soon as you're able!

    Perhaps the hospital may have an online computer you could "borrow" while you're
    confined? May not hurt to ask! (May be worthwhile to talk to the hospital onco. social worker prior to surgery and see if she could get access for you?) Sometimes, surprising things happen if we just ask!

    Keep that attitude intact and know that all your friends are here for you.

    Hi Marty, I had a left mast. 1-15-02 on a Thurs am and was released Fri. eve.I had no pain at all, was numb.and still am under my arm and around a little towards the back. feels a little funny but will get used to it.
    I haven't had reconstruction yet, not sure if I will.
    Good luck and will keep you in my prayers.

    I will say lots of prayers for you. You have been on my mind and I am glad I got your update the other day. Everything will be great. That would be great if all drains were removed before you get home. They really stink, having to drain and cover..yuck. Hang in there.
