Hi Phil, and others,
decided to start a new thread, easier to get to and the topic had changed:
I suppose even though there are so many of us out there, the problem is that everyone is different and the advances in treatment don't make things easier. But as you say, if we stick together then the chances of get decent follow up is much greater. Here in the Netherlands there has been a lot of criticism from people who have had cancer about follow up treatment. Its just a matter of hoping, and waiting, until those that can do something about it higher up, actually go and do just that.

    Hi Tom
    Good news here in Ontario. Last week I was at the POGO conference in Toronto. It was announced that we now have five provincial
    clinics to study and treat childhood cancer survivors. I dont have a lot of details as of yet but it is a step towards what we all want. Hopefully it will be a success and a role model for other centres everywhere to follow and benifit survivors every where. I will keep you posted

    Looks like something is at least happening over there, which as you say can only be good news. I must admit though, here we have several hospitals which concentrate on Cancer in general, but not to do with after treatment, when life goes on.

    Hi Tom
    Do you have a Candlelighters Organization there? If so are they doing anything. Pushing them may be the way to get the existing clinics to recognize the need for
    a special clinic for childhood cancer and survivors.

    Not that I know of, but I suppose its worth looking up. I'll let you know if I find anything.

    There isn't a candlelighters organisation here, although there is something similar,'the VOKK (vereniging ouders, kinderen en kanker(organisation for parents children and cancer)) but I haven't looked into it.

    I was also able to get the same information from Candlelighters here. The website is
    www.vokk.nl . The presidents email is
    mc.naafs@vokk.nl .
    It is also available to read in english.
    You may want to look at it.
