Lymphedema and mastitis

Has anyone every developed Mastitis shortly after diagnosis with mild lymphedema?

    I am not sure what this is. Many of us have fiber bands and scar tissue. Some even get infection after starting chemo. Lymphedema is a common problem for those of us with lymphnode disections. Some have extreme swelling causing pain, nerves affected. Let me know about the Mastitis please.

    Hi! Mastitis is infection of breast tissue. Have you had surgery? Lymphodema is swelling in the arm on the operative side where the lymphnodes have been removed. If you had a lumpectomy, I can see how you might get mastitis but unless you've had surgery, you shouldn't have lymphadema. Please tell us a bit more about what has happened so far. Thanks! Cathy

    Mastitis is a breast infection. My breast is pink,swollen and warm to touch. I have been on two rounds of antibiotics and am returning to the surgeon and oncologist this coming Monday, I have recently relocated from Texas to Kansas and have not seen surgeon or oncologist in KS yet. I will be visiting TX to see doctor this coming week. I just wanted to know if this is common following lymphedema diagnosis. I have physical therapy for and a sleeve to wear but can't seem to lose the infection. thanks colleen

    Hi Cathy-- I have had lumpectomy with chemo and radiation ending December. I have developed lymphedema recently after moving and have seen physical therapist and have sleeve to wear. However, my breast has become pink, warm to touch and streaky. This is new and, of course, I am self diagnosing inflammatory cancer. I have had two rounds of antibiotics and am returning to Texas this coming week to see all my regular docs. In the meantime, I am freaking out over this change. I have not established care with oncologist or surgeon in KS yet and have only seen internist and therapist. Can you develop inflammatory cancer after having another type of breast cancer? I am so worried that this has not cleared. Thanks for your help. PS I have misplaced my Susan Love Breast Book for reference. colleen

    Colleen, where are you in Kansas? I live almost on the MO/KS state line and I have a WONDERFUL and talented Oncologist. If you are near the Kansas City area, I will give you his name and address.     Hi Colleen! There's always a slim chance you can get a different type of cancer but the chances are slim! Don't jump to any conclusions! It's possible you have cellulitis which is curable with antibiotics. Go to the MD and have it checked out. ,then you'll know whether to be worried or not. It's so easy for all of us to think the worst but 9 times out of 10 it's nothing awful! Good luck! I'll pray for you. Keep in touch! Cathy
