Saw my Oco. today things are ok so far. Told him about the chat room he wondered if anyone else has had a 9cm. with 11 lymph nodes?He has given me a good round of chemo treatment's doing radiation then back on herceptin for whenever. We just hope that what I have been through will work. He stay's positive with me but, unsure down the road just like everyone else. Just would like to hear some positive input from survivors to stay on track. thank you Sharon

    Sharon,

    I think your onco is a good doctor. He's doing his best to ensure a good outcome but no one can predict the future with cancer. It seems the more they know about it, the more tricky they realize it is.

    We do have to stay positive - and do all we can to try and give it the boot.

    I'm new here but I saw your message and wanted to give you some support. I was diagnosed in Nov 97 with a 7 1/2 cm tumor and 25 lymph nodes involved. I had a mastectomy (one side) and 4 rounds of Adriamycin and Cytoxan. Then in May of 98 I had high dose chemo and a stem cell transplant and then the usual 6 weeks of radiation. I'm 3 1/2 years from diagnosis and still going strong...so far all my tests are clean. I'm 56 years old. All I can say is hang in there! Learn all you can about your treatments...do what the onc says...but question everything! By the way, my tumor was invisible on mammograms. First clue I had was that I felt it. Don't spend too much time worrying about what might have been if you had caught this earlier. The fact is, we all have probably lived with the cancer they found for several years before it was detectable. You are getting the best treatment imaginable. From what my onc says, herceptin is now being used as a first line treatment...not just for recurrence. I'll never have it, tho, as I was her2/neu negative. I was estrogen receptor positive, tho, so I took Tamoxifen until my platelets were low last Fall and they put me on Arimidex. I like it better as the side effects are less.

    Sharon, I have had breast cancer three times. I am a special case. When I was 24 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had chemo along with radiation. It returned when I was 33. I had a stem cell transplant. I takes you to deaths door and then the bring you back to life. Thinking this would do the trick I was out of the woods with such a aggresive treatment I was once again disappointed. I had another reacurrance. I have had more chemo and since then completed my rounds. I am still surviving. I feel great now. I don't take anything for granted and enjoy everything I can. Keep a positive attitude and fight this battle. Chin up! Dawn
