Hi everyone, A question to those of you who have taken Taxol. How long did it take your taste buds or your good taste to return? I thought it would be awhile, but a friend just told me that her taste is still not the same as before Taxol. She still avoids sweet products ( coke and sugar in her tea, cookies etc.)She is a 7 year cancer survivor, uterine cancer. This same friend told me that my green tea is weak because it must steep for about an hour before drinking. She uses 2 tea bags in a carafe and lets it set an hour, then reheats a cup when she wants it. I will have to try this. She also drinks the green tea cold. As you can see, FOOD is still on my mind. Margaret suggested making soup and that does help. I even made bean soup with several kinds of beans and tomato and that was good. I added jalapenos to make it spicy. Spicy or tart does taste best. Also, to those of you that I email, my roadrunner server is having difficulty and I cannot send emails right now. They hope to have it ready again over the week end. I still receive but can not send. Love to all, Nancy S

Dear Nancy: I have been off Taxol since December and I didn't even realize that my taste buds are working just fine. It came back so slowly--it just seemed natural. I lost my sweet tooth, also, and it would have helped my waist line if that had stayed lost! Hope yours are back on line real soon. God bless you, Brenda

    Hi Nancy,
When I had Texol I was albe to eat allmost anything because I was on Prevacid (due to the Adrianmison). I had such heartburn and was not able to eat anything but once I was put on Prevacid there was not anything out there that I could not eat...lol(laugh out loud). What killed my taste buds was the first batch of Chemo. Makes you feel like you have a tin can in your mouth all the time. Was good for me cause I lost some weight but when I was over it I gained it back. I have been off Texol for a few weeks now and have no problem with my taste buds. What form of Texol are you on? I had it injected by the jug full once every three weeks for 4 treatments. How are you getting it? I eat sweets as well as everything else. Sometimes I wish I still had the tin taste cause then I would not eat so much...lol. Every person is different. Hang in there things will get better.
Hugs to you and God bless.

Hello Leanne, Thanks for the reply. I have done 4 cycles of A/C and 4 cycles of taxol, receiving the last one on March 26th. My taste for food does not return in the 21 days between treatments, but maybe it will start to return now that my chemo is over. When you say you recieved Taxol by the "jug full"....I also received it by IV injection. I received doseage according to my weight and looking at my physican's order sheet, I can not tell you exactly how much I did receive. It says 175MG/M2 ( whatever that means, but I think the 175 is my weight) I'm suprised that I have not asked that question before. I will put it on my list of questions for next visit. You are doing the radiatin part of your recovery now? How are you feeling with your radiation treatments? Spring is bouncing in the windows and doors and I am sooooo happy to welcome it. Take care, my love to you, Nancy S

Hi Brenda, I'm glad food tastes good to you again. And good news that taste does return to normal slowly. I should be happy that I am not craving sweets and eating less. I used to be a "whale" and am still a little too heavy. I'm at 175 pounds now and hope to lose another 20 pounds this summer. I' m tall, 5'7", but would look much better at 150 pounds. I intend to diet after the radiation is over and EXERCISE like I am training for the olimpics. (high expectations for an old lady) Thanks for your reply, Brenda, hope all is going well with you today. Love and hugs, Nancy S

    Hi Nancy,
With the Taxol I was trying to be funny. By "Jug Full" I mean Iv injection as well. They do go by your weight. It took me aprox. 4 to 5 hours each sesion.
Yes I am on Radition. In all I am to recieve 32 and I have 16 left. Its a brezz comparied to the other. Takes no time at all. In and out. Feeling great. Tired at times but I was tired before so I cant tell the difference...lol. People ask me how I am doing and I tell them "I am tired of being tired."
Yes Spring is hear and loving the warmer weather. But I still have approx. 4 feet of snow out back to get read off. Know anyone that wants some...lol. But it is going down and I am so very glad...its been such a long winter. I need sunshine and fun things to do now. Never throught I would say it but I cant wait to be back at work. Just to intwine with people. I had to stay away and kept by myself most of the winter so not to catch anything. I made sure of it. I did not want anymore then I had allready to deal with. It worked. But right now my husband has a cold and I keep telling him not to get too close cause I sure do not want it.
Well I will let you get back to what you were doing and take good care and God Bless.
    Have a Happy Easter
    Many hugs Leanne

    Hi Nancy,
I can't tase anything. my tongue is numb on the outside and in pain on the inside.
I have been eating ice cream because I can feel the cold. I have been drinking mint and lemon teas with no sugar....very sour. all regular teas have been giving me hiccups, which with the major pain in my chest is not helpfull at all.

At least that has eased some. If you like mint and lemon try that rather that sugar. It cuts through the feeble tastebuds.
