I was diagnosed two years ago with Stage II colon cancer. I went thru 6 months of chemotherapy and I am now cancer free and looking forward to celebrating my 50th birthday. My friends and family helped me a great deal and I kept a positive attitude thru my whole ordeal which wasn't always easy. I had to have a temporary colostomy which was reversed 6 months later. If there is anything I can do please let me know.

LISTEN TO DOCTORS,ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND.THE SURVIVAL RATE FOR COLORECTAL
CANCER IS GOOD, WITH THE PROPER TREATMENT.
I WAS DIAGNOSED ON 6-19-00 ,AND UNDERWENT
SURGERY ON 6-29-00. I'VE HAD 4 WEEKS OF CHEMOTHERAPY AND 28 DAYS OF RADIATION AND CHEMO.THE LAST ROUND OF CHEMO. WAS ON FEB.2nd. TODAY I FEEL GREAT!,I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE TO HAVE HAD NEARLY NO SIDE EFEECTS FROM CHEMO. OR RADITION.
BELIVE ME ,I UNDERSTAND YOUR CONCERNS. THE MORE YOU LEARN ABOUT THIS DISEASE THE BETTER PREPARED YOU WILL BE TO MAKE DECISSIONS.
    GOOD LUCK!!!

Hope you are doing well. Your date of writing was my surgical date. I am surviving-just. This surely takes getting used to. Best wishes to you.

    One step at a time
    Hi Catch9,

You have come to the right place. I know it saved my sanity:-) I was dx'd w/Stage II-b colon cancer in August '06. Surgery, 5 mos chemo. Done w/chemo in Feb '07 and dx'd w/endometrial cancer in June '07. Surgery only. I am now living well.

Now if you look at everything at once, you will get to feeling overwhelmed. Take everything one step at a time. If you aren't comfortable with any of your doctors or medical team, get second opinions or change teams or whatever you need to do.

Ask questions! Be a part of your own treatment team; remember, no one will advocate for you as well as you! Always be truthful to your medical team--full disclosure can prevent problems.

As you go along this journey (for it is really a journey), you will have ups and downs. Don't be afraid to take antidepressants; they can make things a lot easier. Don't be afraid to admit you're afraid. If you can't do that with your family (I know it's hard), then come here & talk it out. If you are a person of faith, pray. Even if you aren't, I know many others and I will be praying for you.

Hang in there. We are all here for you!

    Hugs and prayers,
    Kirsten

you're at the best place for info and caring people.
I found out in December and was scared to death. These people jumped in and were supportive and welcoming. I found more compassion and understanding here, than out in the "real world". Some of these people have been around a long time and can truly help with questions. I wish you the best, catch9...ask away, vent away, these people are great.

    Diane,

You're right- it says 2001. I wonder if the date's a mistake or not.
"catch9"... if you're out there- reply back and let us all know how you are- if this is really an old post or if you just posted it, but it has the wrong date!

My story be an Sept 2012

i got very sick very quick while on vacation in Sept 2012. I went to my Pcp and with no exam of any kind he replied oh you probably just have hemroids. I had a a routine colonoscopy coming in 6 months I asked could that be moved up. His reply no we will just keep an eye on things. After leaving his office I said no way not only was I having severe blood pain and no appetite. MY BODY was screaming out to me telling me I was sick. I called Colon rectal and was moved up based on symptoms. I was told right after test I had colon cancer which was confirmed within 2 days. Colon doctor was appalled of actions of Pcp. She said I was smart to listen to my body.

Based on location I had surgery first staged  111b colon cancer. 2 of 58 nodes tested positive. 8 months of treatment followed. 6 of chemo 2 of radiation. I remain cancer free to date. This is a critical time as I come up soon on 3 yr marker from completion of treatmentS.I am so very grateful for test results to date. Being honest I will say my live is very different However. I have many off days and diet is critical and always let your body direct you what works and does not work. I have a couple of friends that understand the impact colon problems can cause but most people do not get it. I find these forum to be the very best support you can get people who have truly walked the walk. the journey is tough and you have to take each day at a time. Know that I care if that helps in even the smallest way.
