Dairy Products and Breast Cancer

Hi, Margaret here. Just read an interesting article today linking breast cancer with consumption of dairy products. I always felt in the back of my mind that the hormones fed to milk producing cows affected my hormones too. Did any of you also consume a lot of milk products. My three sisters were lactose intolerant and one is over 30 and has not had any children (another risk factor). I had two children before the age of 30 and breast fed them both thinking that would lower my risk!! So I'm just taking an informal survey here. Anyone can email me at mjdp2@yahoo.com if you want the article forwarded to you. It came to me from the Am. Cancer Society, Articles of Interest. Cancer related articles published in journals and newspapers are emailed to me from the local ACS office. Let me know if you want to receive them. Margaret

Hi Margaret. Yes I had read that the junk fed to our food chain is now being looked at carefully. I live in New Zealand & feeding hormones to cows is illegal here (all our cows are 100% pasture fed anyway as the climate is so mild & grass grows all year)but our battery chickens are fed all sorts of junk & I always buy only organic eggs & chickens just in case. All this GE modified food worries me too. In New Zealand we have banned all GE food unless it is clearly labelled as such so that we have a choice. It makes for more expensive food but I feel safer for it. I too had 2 children & breastfed both of them but my cancer manifested itself when the youngest was only 5 (he's 25 now). I understand there is a strong hereditary link but no one in my family has ever had BC before so who knows. INteresting questions aren't they. It looks as if the best hope for us is the new vaccines being trialled for leukemia at the momment. IF they work they will be able to target breast & prostate cancer as well as all involve the lymphatic system. Let's hope it's in time to benefit all of you wonderful ladies. Love & hugs. Pam

Well, the way I look at it is the Drs. think Everything gives us cancer these days, there was a piece in the news about 10 yrs ago saying Chick Peas/Garbanzo beans cause cancer, but that was squashed as nonsense. I have a high family history of all sorts of different cancers, I had two kids before I was 30, and nursed both of them. I never drank milk as a kid and still dont, i think I am lactose intolerant.Growing up we ate mostly pasta and chicken and fish. All this GE food is crap, I know they are trying to feed the hungry in the world, but if they would spend more time in third world countries teaching them about birth control and how to run farms and keep their water clean, then there would be no need of that fake food, and if the government took a cut in pay or did not buy their mistress that $40,000.00 diamond necklace, then the money could be put to better use, such as cancer research, feeding and housing the poor. etc. I am sorry if I offended anybody, but in the town i live in the Natives are living high on the hog, driving brandnew cars, and dressing their kids in Tommy Hilfiger clothes, meanwhile the rest of us pay someome else to raise our kids while we bust our butts at work all day and shop at Wal-Mart. I happen to LOVE Wal-Mart, so dont get me wrong, but the way the government sees fit to spend our tax dollars is a crime in action. Ok, political discussion over, back to cancer!!!!Sorry, I tend to get involved in the conversations going on in my head, and being stuck in the house all winter with a three year old gets to me, I know most of us are in the same boat, I would just love to wrinkle my nose like Samantha the Witch and make all right in the world.
Well, now that I have added my .20$ I will sign off before I offend anyone
    hugs from Tiger xoxox

Hi Margaret, vinnie here. I drank lots of milk especially with oreos and double stuff. But no one else in my family has bc. How would I know, if it made a difference. I know now they tell you only low or no fat dairy products. It would be interesting to know for sure so that we can protect our daughters. keep us advised.

Tiger you've hit it right on the head with 3rd world famine problems. Most of the aid goes to line the pockets of the latest jumped up dictator. I will only give to charities that work on teaching them how to provide solutions for themselves - never to food aid. That only raises another generation to starve & beg. It looks as if you & I agree on most things. I am also sorry if I have offended anyone but I tend to support home charities. Lvoe to all. Pam

Hi Margaret. Yes I would like to receive those articles. And yes, I did and do drink a lot of milk and eat a lot of cheese. Have since I was a little girl. Interesting concept. It would be interesting to know when the hormones were first given to the cows too. Jane

The scientist who did this reasearch, Jane Plant got cancer 5 times. She ate organic dairy product
and decided to stop all dairy. She was given a 3 months prognosis but then the tumors disappeared
and she is now 7 years cancer free. She doesn't think dairy products cause cancer but promotes it.
She was interviewed on ABC TV's Good Morning America. Margaret
