I would like to make it to 100. So far no one in our family has done so. I think 98 was the closest. Last year Feburary we were told the company was cutting back the IT dept. My boss & I figured it was going to happen since we worked with a very old system and they were rolling out a replacement for it. A number of us were kept on for 6 months to do a turnover of knowledge & such to the ones that were staying on. That was to start in March and we all know what happened then. So it was 6 months of working remote then retired at the end of August. Navigating the insurnace stuff was a pain! The good part of it is that our youngest grandchild spent Friday's at our house so mom could work. 

 

When I first looked at the names I thought everyone left. Then I saw your name, Shady and Max's names. So glad to see the names.

I'm delighted to see you again, Linda.   I write much less often than in previous years.   

Regulars here know that I had a tennis-ball sized node removed last year -- benign, but a bizarre disease with no known treatments and no protocols for following.   A later PET shows that they are in several locations now.  I guess the good news is that they cause few or no problems, unless they press against an organ.  It is associated only with the rare form of HL that I had, and is often misdiagnosed as such, which is a little discomforting.   But the pathology results took over three weeks, and got sent around the nation for outside confirmation.   I feel fine, except for continuing anemia, which my onc is following.

Worry about downsizing and elimination of work positions to either new software or outsourced companies is everywhere in America.   My wife, who is an accounting analysist for a medical system, has heard 'rumors' and threats of such for years.   You just have to learn to ignore the office gossip.  If you recall the comedy series 'The Office,' such fears among the staff were one of the most common themes on the show over the many years that it ran.

Besides Shady, Po, and myself, several other old-timers still write occasionally, such as Becky, Sue, PBL, and perhaps a half-dozen others.

I listen to Pandora streaming radio, frequently all day long, since I can customize it to precisely what I like, which tends to be 60s and 70s pop: ABBA, Simon andGarfunkel, Bread, The Hollies, and others.  Some tell me it is 'downer music.'   But I like it better than the current stuff, which tends to be mostly about staying stoned or other debaucheries.   This song addresses getting older, but wanting to become much older still (a pretty universal sentiment).  Great bass line; bassist (green shirt) plays with a pick (unusual on bass), but the way I do it also.  He even looks a lot like I used to decades ago (I have photographic evidence !).  I hope playing is good for the mind also, and perhaps even for dexterity, in a neuropathy-riddled old guy

Max we both like the old stuff, only different types. To me Abba and Chicago were a curse on mankind. Couldn't stand them. And disco? With a few exceptions, no way!  But discos were a great place to meet girls! I had some great times in discos in Amsterdam and London. Girls from all over the world. I liked the British groups like the Animals. To each his/her own. Have a great week.

Chicago: no sane person could

Chicago: no sane person could dislike Chcago's version of 'Missing You,' taped with The Beach Boys as backup vocals.  My girlfriends tended to be the pretty, National Merit types, who not a lot of guys liked; the girls who wrote their own poetry, or whose favorite class was sculpture.   I DISPISED disco from Day 1, and still do today.   I loved all Bee Gees stuff pre-disco, won't listen to their post-disco iteration.   And I never watched any of the Grease-themed movies, and have never entered a disco.  Love Olivia Newton-John's non-disco, woun't listen to her disco hits.   You have to love the world's hero of the Breast Cancer battle; she is a wonderful woman (stage 4 for many, many years now).    Also, I have always been a huge MOTOWN fan, but no post-Motown R&B (love Commodores, Temptations, Four Tops, Marvin Gay, Al Greene).    Fleetwood Mac, especially with Bob Welsh as lead singer.  Their hit Hypnotized takes people to another realm.  A song about legends of ghosts on the Outer Banks -- your neck of the woods.  The body doesn't matter, when they've got you hypnotized....

I also love Enya, the Irish, Celtic-New Age superstar.  I'll bet a Rituxan infusion that you dislike her intensely...??

A small but remote house, with deer, is worth more than any Manhattan penhouse.  People want a more natural setting, for sanity and calm.  I hear people in Portland wish they had a place way out in the woods.

Hello Lindary

I read some post but only respond when I think I can add something. Max and Shadyguy are telling their age. I retired 12/31/2020. Did not really work most of the year though. I am kind of young so trying to navigate the insurance thing. Will COBRA for first 18 months and then see. I turn 57 in March.  We have deer in our yard as well. The only way we move would be if we could not manage on our own. I get a scan in 3 weeks. Just a part of Lymphoma. Glad to see your back!
