Ultrasound update

in Kidney Cancer #1

Got the results from my ultrasound 

 

12 mm cyst on my left kidney. At the moment it's going both ways, could be slightly complex or could be simple. 

 

Radiologist wants me to have another ultrasound in six Months. 

 

This waiting game sucks. :(

    Get the Uro's opinion also.

    The recommendation is not surpising given such a little puppy

    At what size does it need to

    At what size does it need to be to know for sure?

    After biopsy or pathology

    Don't rush it, many of these snall ones stay that way.

    Under 4cm (40mm) is considered small. Doctors often do a wait-and-see on something that small. 

    And at such a small size, even if it turned out to be the c-word, there's no risk of it spreading. 

    Yes, waiting sucks. But as always, if it concerns you, don't be afraid to bring it up with your doctor and see if they'd be willing to do your follow-up sooner than 6 months.

    Thank you. My primary told me the results today. I see the neph on Thursday. I'll see what he says. This while thing is super scary. Guess it's a mix of everything.

    For mine, the urologic

    For mine, the urologic oncologist said that if a subsequent scan shows growth, they know with a lot more certainty what is is.  As eug said, ones that small usually don't spread.  In my case, my 15mm lesion grew to 17mm in a 2-1/2 year period, and was removed then.

    Did they remove just it or the whole kidney?

    They r3moved just the lesion,

    They removed just the lesion, plus around it to ensure clear margins (meaning they took out enough to make sure nothing malignant was left).  It was done robotically at 3 in the afternoon and I was released at 1:30 the next day.

    As an aside, I was still (barely) awake when rolled into the OR.  I recall seeing the robotic machine and I think I yelled out, "Wow!  That looks #$&*()' cool!"  The surgical team that visited the next morning neither confirmed nor denied my actions, but they did smile a lot when talking to my wife and me.....or were those smirks?
