Tamoxifen/Hysterectomy

in Breast Cancer #1

My question is I am terrified of having another surgery since Ive had my masectomy. All the forums I have been on everyone gets a hysterectomy after they have a masectomy. I am on Tamoxifen. My Onco report says I have a 3 % chance of this spreading anywhere as long as I stay on the Tamoxifen. Is there anyone out there who did not get a hysterectomy while on Tamoxifen?

    I've never heard of this

    This is the first time I've heard of this. My doctors didn't mention anything about a hysterectomy after my double mastectomy and none of my breast cancer survior friends has had a hysterectomy for this reason. Estrogen is produced in the ovaries, not the uterus.

    I had a double mastectomy in

    I had a double mastectomy in 2018 and I went to have my annual physical.  The doctor mentioned it to me and stated normally when someone have breast cancer some patients usually get a hysterectomy.  I was terrified, but never did she push the issue.  She said in some cases some patients go ahead and have the surgery. No don't want to have any type of surgery anymore.  I haven't had the hysterectomy.

    Tamoxifen can make the lining

    Tamoxifen can make the lining of your uterus thicken which can cause cancer.

    Have you been to gyn to check

    Have you been to gyn to check your uterus? Im with you I dont want another surgery.It terrifies me to even think about it.

    Hi i just wanted to share. I just had a masectamy and in the process of reconstruction. I have not started any treatment, but they are leaning towards Tamoxifen. My oncologist also mentioned a hysterectomy. I have not even healed from this surgery! The last thing on my mind is another surgery. I am as terrified as you. How much can our bodies take? I guess this is because of my gene mutation and i think the Tamoxifen puts me at risk of uterus cancer. I'm not sure what i will do. Best of luck to you.

    Tamoxifen

    I took tamoxifen for 5 years and still have both my uterus and ovaries. I asked my onco. if I should have tem removed and he didn't feel any need to do that. Even though I was HR+ he said that as long as I stayed on the tamoxifen I should be fine. Here it is almost 11 years later and I am still cancer free and have all my female parts. ahope this helps.
