Complex Kidney Cyst

I was recently diagnosed with a complex kidney cyst.  It is located in the lateral region and is showing minimal vascularity.  Size is 2.3 cm.

The cyst is also presenting with interal septation - although the report does not specify the extent of the septation.  There is no calculus or hydronephrosis.

I go for an MRI this coming week.

Needless to say I am scared and confused.

Can anyone shed some light on this?  Something you know or have experienced.

Thank you in advance!

    The coming week

The coming week, the waiting is going to be the worst part. Yeah, it can be scary not knowing what's going on. It's a typical reaction.

The cyst is small, just a wee big bigger than a malted milk ball. Small is good when it comes to kidney masses. The MRI will provide your physician with more info, so that can help with some of the confusion. Write down your questions in the meantime, think about who you might have go with you to your appointments (because two sets of ears are better than one).

All the best and keep us posted --

I had surgery for a complex

I had surgery for a complex cyst this past march. It was 3cm and turned out to be part cyst and part mass. just had my 6 month scan which was Ned (no evidence of disease). My cyst was in the middle of the kidney and had an open partial.

We were all concerned and scared in the begining

    CM,

The bright spot is that it is fairly small. Even if you get a C diagnosis at that size you can look forward to a near 100% full recovery. That was ,r 16 years ago with a similar size what turned out to be tumor.

    Does anyone know if

Does anyone know if vascularity is a definitive for a malignancy?  Mine was showing minimal vascularity from the lateral mid pole.  Have been trying to research.

Don't get hung up looking for yes or no answers.

    Momma,

    These scans are subject to degree and interpretation. When you get to complex cysts size also becomes a factor. In the end it is still small even if malignant. We hope we can deny you membership to our club, but are here for you if you need us.;

Bad news... the cyst is a mass 2.9 cm and is cancerous (not sure what kind) with lymph node involvement.  We are devastated.  Does anyone know what the fluid collection around it would be?  Any thoughts on the situation?

    My thoughts

    Momma,

You will be fine. We were all scared out of our mind wen we were told we had Kidney Cancer. I sure was back in 2002. If you are going to get Kidney Cancer you might as well get it while it is small and nearly 100% fully curable from surgery alone. Your Urologist-Surgeon sould be able to answer yoyr more specific questions although some may wait until a pathology report following surgery. Wishing you good luck on your journey. Just think maybe down the road you can help me wit the newbies.

    Worry

Someone wise on this board says worry wastes your time and energies. Ok, I get that, but it was not enough to get me to stop my thoughts racing with all the unknowns.

take a deep breath, slowly exhale.  You are at a starting point on a trip you have not gone on before. Read past posts here and you will get to know us, our stories, our journeys.  They are all a bit different, but we share common words, treatments, side effects too. Lots will become common sounding, and then less scary ... and less to worry about.

Read all you can find and look up terms you can’ t figure out. Statistics on how long you got On line are outdated. You have not got an expiration date stamped on you ....  kidney cancer is in a class by itself that has made huge discoveries in the last three years, and treatment options not available ever before.

You will be fine... a new normal will begin to evolve. Come here to ask, vent, get angry.. and share your news with us.  Glad you found this place... you will be fine

    Pam

Thank you so much Pam.  I

Thank you so much Pam.  I know it might sound cliche.... but, worry is my middle name.  I see the long road ahead and if not for people like all of you to give support it would be unbearable.

I am headed to Cleveland Clinic on Wednesday and hoping for some answers.  The urologist who originally ordered my tests told me she handles "kidney stones and other conditions" and needs to refer me to a specialist.

So, to recap I have a 2.9 cm tumor which has spread to the lymph nodes.  I am not sure how far it has actually spread.  It is my guess they will order a PET scan?  My liver was enlarged but it sounded like it was a "fatty liver" which I am skeptical about.  The tumor has fluid around it which I can't seem to find any information online about.

Questions - Did anyone here know about metastisis sites after the MRI or does it require the PET scan? Does lymph node involvement always mean the prognosis is poor and that metastisis has occurred?

I am a mess!  But again I thank you and I am sure I will be posting soon with questions and needing your support.

    Bless each of you!

    Thank you.

    I think

Momma is overworrying. Mets genera;;y do not occur with tumors under 4cm. Cleveland Clinic is where they train the specialists. Better they try and answer your questions in more specificity than me.

They thought I had lymph node

They thought I had lymph node involvement at first. On the next scan they couldn’t find any swollen lymph nodes. All my scans since have been ned. This was for the colon cancer.  No lymph node involvment for the kidney cancer.

    cleveland Clinic

Concerned Momma, I too am being treated at the Cleveland Clinic for renal cancer. They have been very good to me. 3 1/2 years ago I was diagnosed with chromophobe rcc in both kidneys.  There were 3 tumors on the right  and i on the left with several cysts. Dr Chuey did a partial robotic surgery on the right and was scaned a week ago and am still ned in right kidney. The left one still has rcc and has shown significant increase since last scan 6 months ago. Will have follow up appointment soon. I am not worried as I know I'm in good hands there. Will pray for you.

    Kidney Cysts

My Bosniak 3 cyst was removed in june along with a mass that they found in surgery. Waited a very long 4 weeks til I saw surgeon again. Turns out both were low grade cancer. So glad its out. Long opration and advised dont do anything for 6 weeks... make that a bit longer, but hell Im not going to bounce back so quick at 67. However all out so next appoint for MRI is for 1 years time...  Much better out.
