in Esophageal Cancer #1

I am writing a quick update as I haven’t been on this site since Summer! It has been a  heck of a ride! My husband was diagnosed with stage 3 adenocarcinoma of the Esophagus aprox a year ago! He had chemo, radiation and then open thoracic surgery! The docs thought they got it all with no post chemo to be given! His surgery was in March and by May when they did the scan, the cancer had spread already! They began more sessions of chemo but unfortunately with mixed results! Some of the spots were getting smaller however some spots weren’t, including one tumor in his liver. He is now on a new regime of chemo which includes Cyramza and Taxol, with Herceptin to be added in a month! We have seen a specialist in NH at the Norris Corron Cancer Center and he is registered for clinical trials if something comes up specific to his cancer. We will see how this new chemo goes for him as they will scan him again in a month or so! I am taking utmost care of him of course and pray everyday his life will be extended And his cancer put in remission! I pray for many people with all my heart! I also have been caring for my aging parents who were up from FL this Summer and helping them get their meds, doctors, ect straightened out so they would be well enough to go back. In between, I have my full time job at the school and keep up on my two homes! We have one up North in the mountains where I plan on taking him this long wknd to enjoy the peace and rest! I told my dear, adopted Grandmother Loretta I would try to be better about coming back to this site! Many wonderful people on here who have definitely been there! With knowledge and wisdom! I am grateful for that! I will never give up hope! Be well everyone<3

    Hello Mtngirl,

    It makes me very sad to hear about his recurrence. After going through chemotherapy and surgery we all hope that we have won the battle. It is so very frustrating to hear of someone having to start the battle again. Of course, you know there are people here who have had good success with Herceptin.

    Your husband is very fortunate to have you as his advocate. But it really sounds like you have your hands full. Hopefully there is someone close to you that can provide a hand from time to time to give you some rest. It is very important to take care of you as well.

    I wish I had something positive and uplifting to write, but there is not much positive to say about a recurrence. All we can do is take one day at a time and try to make the best of each day.

    I will be sending prayers for good results with the new chemotherapy approach.
