Finished!

So excited to share that I finished the 10-mile race that I promised myself I would run after I learned I had cancer but had to defer a year when I found out my cancer was more aggressive and required further treatment.

I cried at mile one, seven and at the finish.  At mile seven someone had written “Fight Cancer” in chalk on the road and I lost it.  I thought about and said a prayer for all of you and your families as I ran across those words.

It meant so much to me, my family and friends that I cross that finish line that I promised myself 18 months ago.  Despite a pulled groin muscle and a bruised toe, I DID IT!

To all of you on this forum keep fighting cancer for yourself, family and friends.  I am so grateful for all the advice, shared experiences and hope that you all provide.  THANK YOU!

    Good For You!

Thanks Jan! It was very physical including the training.  I thought I strained my previous ileostomy area doing abdominal exercises and my oncologist told me the pain I felt was actually scar tissue aging and not to worry about it.

    Emotions

Jim I knew that with your running experience that you could relate to the emotions before, during and after the race. There were so manny runner's stories being shared on social media leading up to the race that were incredibly moving.  I took the train to the start and befriended a woman from out of town who wanted to understand the race logistics.  I ended up telling her my story about "unfinished business" and we immediately bonded about running...

    So Happy

Thank you Ruth! It was amazing.  Even more so that it was supposed to rain that morning and it didn't! The weather conditions were perfect; cool and cloudy.  It was a joyful run. Smile

I am so inspired by your determination to accomplish such a long race. As I struggle to take walks daily, this is such a beautiful thing to see. Thank you so much for sharing.
