Talked to Sloan today going in one week!

in Colorectal Cancer #1

we have an appointment on the 26th with Dr Kingham who is a surgeon. I spoke with coordinator and the nurse who said she thought he would be able to help us. She said their surgeons were quite  skilled and not afraid of resecting in the caudate lobe.  They put us with the surgeon they felt was the best fit for my husband’s case and they told me he likes to do things laparoscopically. That would be awesome since last time he sliced him open with a L shaped very large insicion That immediately got a huge hernia. I am excited but trying not to get my hopes up since we were told surgery from the start only to have it pulled. However, I did tell her they wanted him to have chemo on the 21st and she told me she did not want him getting it, so they could do his surgery quicker. The fact that his dr was still pushing chemo makes me think my instincts there are correct and they really are not going to help. Our options would not be surgical. 

I am nervous getting into the city at 930 am the traffic should be a nightmare and if he does end up there I am going to have to leave him and not visit until I pick him up. It will all be worth it for more time.  I hope it’s a good experience I am a bit worried after what I have read here.

    That is good news. 

    Don't think about what you have read here. There will always good and bad, so expect the good. 

    I think you guys are making a great step forward. You're on my calendar for the 26th. 

    TRU     P.S. Did you think of maybe staying over night, and that way no stress over rush-hour traffic? I know its an extra expense, but sometimes, its all worth it.

    I did consider it

    but I am very uneasy leaving our autistic son behind, even with my oldest in charge. Taking him is also not an option. It only about an hour to drive into the city traffic will add about a half hour. However if we leave super early we should miss it and just have to wait someplace it’s in Manhattan so finding something to do won’t be an issue. Also my husband feels fine so walking around is ok too. I am kind of excited but still nervous lol

    A Greater Challenge

    Ruth:

    Good luck in your travel from point A to point B and also in the activities that occur at point B.  You guys are managing a much greater challenge in your fight against colon cancer than the rest of us and this trip to NYC adds to that challenge.

    Just so you know, I am humbly impressed by your family management skills.  My situation now, and way back when our three children were younger, pales in comparison to yours.  If I did not live 1,500 miles away then I would volunteer to help you guys in some capacity when you make this drive to the big city.

    that was so incredibly kind you made me cry, your kindness is very much appreciated. I am humbled by it. I try pretty hard to keep things positive and organized here. Nathan my autistic son will pick up immediately on my emotions.  My mind is always who will watch him, how will we get him here or there. i am lucky my oldest son was willing and able  to take the day off to care for him. 

    I will keep you updated on how it goes, hoping for best but ready for the worst my Dad was a wise man and taught me that :)

    Oh Ruth, I'm so happy to hear you guys are going to talk to the surgeon at Sloan.  You would think a good doctor if runs out of his/her option would make suggestions or other options instead of keeping your hubby on chemo. To me that is like handing out the death sentence. I hope this new surgeon will be able to help. Yes, drive in early to beat the rush hour on a Monday morning. Too bad I'm not in the city but if you guys are ever in Queens, let me know. :) Thinking of your guys!

    i very rarely come into the city, but usually my son Noah drags me in at least once a year, next time it’s just for fun I will let you know!
