So its gonna be kinda a long post so here it goes...
I had my first set of post op scans on Friday coupled with my yearly mammogram and the results are in..........

My mammogram showed a cyst that we are just going to monitor and do another ultrasound in 6 months.

My chest xrays and bloodwork are good.
My CT scans on my chest, abdomen and pelvis yield another story. It appears that I have a small 1 cm "spot" on my right and only kidney. Being that it is all that showed up on my scans it is unsure if this is a metastases or a new primary tumor. Apparently this was visible on my scans in Dec pre surgery however it was not mentioned. Although the "spot" has not changed in size it does appear darker.

The plan is to biopsy and do ablation followed by another round of scans in 3 months. I am being referred to the University of Washington for genetic testing and will most likely began seeing a RCC specialist in Seattle.
So here we go again with the fear, and disbelief. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

    What a week you've had

    Man you have a bad week. Sorry about the set back on your scan. Why weren't you told about the spot on the initial scan? Hopefully you'll get some better news after the week you've been through, positive thoughts for you and your family.

    One of the reasons for early and frequent scans is to nip things in the bud while it is still small and manageable.. Good luck at Udub. I knpw the area well as part of my family is in Issaquah.

    Darker Spot

    Tumours usually show up as bright spots in CT/Contrast scans (lots of blood) so a darker spot is not necessarily the end of the world.

    Funny, isn't it, how they often don't tell you about these things until much later?  However if it was there before and they knew about it, they probably consider it low risk. 

    Anyway, hope it all goes well for you.

    He said it has not changed in size so I suppose that is good. Just can't believe it. This was definitely dark on the scan. He said it I hadn't already had cancer he would suggest we wait and watch it but since I have had cancer let's just get it out of there.

    I am so sorry you are going through the fear and anxiety again. I do agree with Iceman that at least it was caught early should it turn out to be malignant. Glad you're going to see a specialist. All the best to you!
