Removing my port

since they will be taking my port out tomorrow morning does that mean I’m being deported? :-)

seriously, I was surprised they said I don’t need a driver. I am going to ask to be blindfolded. I don’t want to see them cutting.

Congrats. I had a driver when it was put in (required). I'd probably get one getting it taken out too.

    So good to hear

Don't worry about the blindfold. If you can see what their doing, then you're eyes are in the wrong place. Maybe they will have an attractive  medical assistant to keep your vision focused elsewhere image

    so happy for you.

So happy for you! I can't

So happy for you! I can't wait to get mine out. When mine was put in, I was pretty groggy. I imagine it is the same drugs even though easier to take out than put in. I was wiped out, but I was still recovering from my colon resection too. I'd say better safe than sorry.

They said it is a local

They said it is a local anesthetic and no need for a driver. I read other posts about this too. Supposed to be fairly easy. I will find out tomorrow morning.

    I had a local

and i didn't feel anything but a little pricks as they numbed the area. It took a while for mine to come out, as i had developed scar tissue around it.

It will be over before you know it.

tru.  - apologize for all lower case. typing with a broken wrist hurts, so i'm minimizing buttons. -

    Yup

And welcome to it - it's amazing how much better it feels.  Just hated mine and it always hurt me so getting out was such a blessing.

    Hope the procedure went well.

Glad that you got to the point of removal.  That's a great feat in this battle.

The procedure was done by a

The procedure was done by a phycians assistant. He told me that since my port was in for six years, that it might be challenging to remove. He said on very rare cases that may have to move me to another room but not to worry if that happened. Then he said he would know pretty quickly if my removal would be difficult.

He told me I would feel a prick and then some burning. And that is exactly what I felt. Then I felt nothing. Local anesthetic worked perfectly. Then he started the extraction. Next thing he said is my port was coming out as if it was only in for six months.

    Super easy.

    I‘ve been de-ported from Cancerville.

Oh wow! The removal isn't surgery like when it is put in place. That is great!

So glad that it went so well.  You are finally free from that reminder.  WTG on moving on.  It feels good to be de-ported to that category doesn't it Laughing

I missed this post Phil, I'm

I missed this post Phil, I'm so glad it's over and went easy. Mine was out in a couple of minutes, so fast and easy, much better than I expected.

For me, the queen of getting extra crap that few people get, having it put in was rough. They hit a nerve and my heart went crazy and they had to call in a cardiac guy and all hell broke loose. They also neglected to tell me that if they do hit a nerve the pain once the freezing comes out will be like someone put a hot iron on the area plus pain all the down the chest, back, and arm for a few days. An Rx for pain would have been an idea.

Anyway, it's good to have it out, isn't it.

    Wonderful

Soyglad it went so smoothly.  Glad to hear that after that long it was still an easy procedure.  Hoping to join you in being "deported" if my next group of scans/tests come out clean and they finally give me the ok.
