I had a robotic partial for a lesion in my right kidney.  I haven't had pain in my right hip as much as a feeling of numbness ever since the surgery.  It's not uncomfortable and it doesn't limit me from any kind of activity.  The surgeon thought that maybe some nerves were affected by the surgery and that they would evetually heal.

Before the surgery, I had a nuclear bone scan that was ordered by my urological oncologist when an earlier CT scan disclosed a small fracture in my tailbone.  There was no evidence of any spread of the RCC as a result of that scan and it was head to toe.

I do get it the odd time. It is more annoying than anything bc it is like a pinching feeling!! Maybe nerves??? That is what I have read. I only get it on the side of my incision.

    nerve endings severed

leave distal ends prone to not exactly lining up for healing. Decreasing sensation. A loosely applied term is, "Superficial cutaneous nerve syndrome. With time you only notice it if you pay attention to it.

Jobie, you may be hyper tuned to how you feel right now. Changes in movement patterns and positioning might be the culprits.

newbie to site..putting in my two cents

I just had a laproscopic radical nephrectomy of my left kidney in december....i am only 4 weeks removed and i have experienced hip pain on my left side also...more like a nagging ache...only seems to happen when i am standing for a long period of time...asked doctor at my post op visit last week..also said it is probably nerve pain from my incision from everything starting to heal.....i also am completely numb around my incision area that they used to remove my kidney from...they told me that will go away with time as my nerves and muscles heal.....has anyone else experienced that?....and how long before feeling returned?

    newbie also but my .02...

had radical open surgery on my left kidney about 5 weeks ago.. have some numbness in cut area as well as in my groin... What I don't like is the "Bulge" which research tells me is very common for open surgery, but I still think it's a surgical hernia...  Not happy about that at all, but all things considered I'm doing well.. Flew home 3 weeks after surgery with only mild discomfort..  Dr. told me NOT to lift anything for 6 weeks which I will do... still have a small part of the incision that hasn't closed yet since everytime I sit it opens... gotta call him and see what he wants me to do.. otherwise I feel ok and can sleep on both sides well...

    later all..

    Wow.  I'm impressed that you

Wow.  I'm impressed that you flew within three weeks.  Hopefully it was a short hop on a plane with decent legroom.

I had the same procedure as you

Same side, too. And I had weird pain and discomfort on the left side after surgery. Freaked me out at first, because all I could think was they took the kidney, so why am I feeling this there? It came and went, but seemed to stick around for a while. I don't recall how long, but I think I had some element of it for at least a couple months or so, maybe a little longer. It did eventually dissipate.

    Bay Area,

    Bay Area,

depends what you call a short hop.. Laughing Was from NYC to Orlando, Fla and about 3 hrs...  Sitting was little onerous but ok.. I guess I'm the oddball here as I've been able to sleep on both sides and stomach, do stairs with no issues and no pain meds after my 3rd day...

Jobie, I know it’s been a while since you posted, but I had my surgery; Radical Nephrectomy 9 mths ago and I have also been experiencing severe pain in both my hips when walking. So badly that I have to sit down and let it subside.

Did you ever figure out what the issue was ?

    thanks for posting.
