Hi everyone,

I am having treatment since Feb 2016 at MD Anderson cancer cencer, although my treatment is going well so far and MD anderson is one of the best in US, I have never had 2nd opinion from any other hospitals. I appreciate if you let me know about your cases about getting 2nd opinion, I womder did you guys stick on 1 hospital without 2nd opinion or you had 2nd opinion for your treatment. Thank you for your input and suggestions if you know good hospital. You may want to send message privately if you don't feel comfortable about mentioning facility name. Thanks

    I had chemo and radiation

I had chemo and radiation locally and will have surgery at Dana Farber/B&W. I got second opinions at Dana Farber on Chemo and Radiation and the treatment program was the same.

    No second opinion for me

I was diagnosed five years ago in November. Everything was quite advanced, so I went straight into surgery and a Oncologist miraculously appeared in my hospital room, with biopsy and diagnosis, two days later. I presume that he was assigned to me by my GP or surgeon.

My Oncologist suggested the Radiation Oncologist, and I have been happy with their treatment and my survival, ever since.

If things are going well, I wonder why you would worry about a second opinion?  But, it is totally up to the individual to make that decision, and I wish you the best as you move forward with whoever treats you.

    no second opinion

I got a colonoscopy on a Friday, scheduled to see surgeon on Monday.  Only second opinion I got was by firering the oncologist the hospital assigned me.  He was a real jerk, so I replaced him with what turned out to be the best.  The result of last 7 yrs NED is hard to argue with.  Best of luck to you!!

    2nd opinion

Thanks for information for all. Trubrit, you might be right, why second opinion if everything is going well, but I had 32 chemo so far and I was told in my first diagnosis that no chance of surgery. That's why I look for 2nd opinion if other hospitals have different ideas.

    Good reason

I was told in my first diagnosis that no chance of surgery. That's why I look for 2nd opinion if other hospitals have different ideas.

That sounds like an excellent reason to go for a second opinion.

We have members here, who have also been told they were inoperable, found another Oncologist who said different, and have been happy to move forward with the new Oncologist.

I hope you find someone who will reasses your situation and you can get the surgery done.

    Yes

My second opinion was from the same hospital but different doctor that had more experience.  My first doctor told me that I'd be left with a permanent colostomy and  at first diagnosis no one told me that and when asking my primary care doctor who he would recommend he gave me a doctor that gave me a temporary illeostomy and made a j-pouch for me.  Long story short, my second opinion was well worth it for me.  If you feel comfortable with your team of doctors stick with them.  It's all about you and who you trust.  My second doctor was excellent and cared that a second opinion was welcome.  The first doctor saw me after that and had no hurt feelings that she wasn't the one that did my surgery.

You do what makes you feel good and comfortable.  That's most important.

    Wishing you well.
