11-year remission of AML and pregnancy planning

I am 32 years old now. I was sick with acute myeloid leukemia in 2002-2004. In 2004 I had the autologous bone marrow transplantation. Since then, I have complete remission.

Now I am fine in terms of my health, but I am upset that I don’t have children. With my eggs pregnancy is rather impossible because I do not have my menstruation after high-dose therapy before bone marrow transplantation. I want to use donor eggs. I think it is even better because I will not be stimulated by high dozes of hormones.

I really want to become pregnant, but I'm afraid. I hope that the disease will never come back, but the information on pregnancy after leukemia treatment which I found on the Internet does not clarify the situation and doctors also do not say anything definitely. Some of them are more or less optimistic and some of them scare me that the disease will come back and I will die.

There is no statistics of successful pregnancies after long-term remission of leukemia. And what I must do I do not know ... It is very hard to feel healthy and be aware that I will never become a mother. I hope I will have a long life ahead, I feel completely healthy, but the fact that I have no kids makes me much depressed. This question is very important for me.

I would like to know if there is someone like me who is interested in pregnancy after leukemia treatment and what your doctors tell about this.

    ALL

Same age. I am in the middle of my chemo and I have the same fears you expressed here. I don't think the Dr's know enough about Leukemia to answer these questions. I have even thought of adoption or fostering when I am older because it will take so long before I can even attempt to get pregnant, if that will be physically possible, nobody knows. I keep hearing stories of women who had Leukemia as a child and go on to parent a baby and that gives me hope.

AML with Allogenic STC and Infertile

I had AML in 2011 and was treated with a allogenic stem cell transplant and am now in remission and infertile. I was fortunate enough to be able to freeze 3 embryos, but that does not guarantee that they will go through the thawing process okay, pass the genetic screening, and then implant. My doctors have been telling me that I will be a high-risk pregnancy and will work with my fertility doctor, OB-GYN and a high-risk pregnancy doctor as I go through the process/pregnancy. I haven't been told that it may be detrimental to my health to go through a pregnancy or that it may cause my cancer to come back. If you have any more questions about this, feel free to ask! Best of luck to you!

Last year I tried to become

Last year I tried to become pregnant using donor oocytes but unfortunately my pregnancy stopped. Now I want to become pregnant again, but I am affraid of an AML relapse... I really don't know what I should do. There is not much information on the Internet concerning this problem.

Hello again, I am 7 weeks

Hello again, I am 7 weeks pregnant with the help of IVF. I feel very well thanks God and I hope that everything will be fine with me and with my baby. I am very happy, just I can't stop thinking about AML that I had 13 years ago. I haven't been with doctors yet. I worry that they will start frightening me with the relapse and telling me to make an abortion... A few months before IVF I have talked to the hematologist from the local hospital and she told me not to get pregnant and also she told me about some woman whose AML relapsed during pregnancy and she died after giving birth to her baby. But this woman got pregnant in 1 year after the treatment and she didn't have any bone marrow  transplantation, but just several chemos...

But there are so many people in remission  nowadays and there are many childhood survivors. I don't think that they will never try to get pregnant...

If you know any cases of successful pregnancy in AML remission, please tell me about them and remember me in your prayers.

    Wishing much health for everyone.
