New Oncologist

A couple of weeks ago I had received a letter informing me that my oncologist was retiring at the end of August. So yesterday at my Rituxan treatment I had my last meeing with my oncologist. She is a wonderful woman and I am going to miss her. However she did point out that I have only 1 or 2 more treatments left for the Rituxan maintenance. Also my hemoglobin is like .1 over the low range.  The other counts are still low but inching up little by little. 

The group she is with does have a new doctor lined up to take over. She has just finished her fellowship so she is young. She did oncology at Rush which is a good reference. I will get my first visit with her in Oct or Nov. That will be around the time of my next Cat Scan. My oncologist is also going to recommend a bone biopsy. Mainly because of the one a year ago that had some "strange" material in it. I had 2 more bone biopsies done after that and they were fine.  

I am not sure how I feel about the Rituxan maintenance ending soon. I will miss seeing the staff at the clinic eveyr 8 weeks. Then again it is a good sign if I don't need to see them for a while. For now I will just look forward to meeting my new oncologist.

    Do they have a dedicated hematologist? Since you are having a new doctor assigned, it might be the time to request a hematologist if available. Just a thought.

    The group my oncologist is with specializes in oncology and hematology. My new oncologist did her fellowship at the same teaching hospital my soon-to-be-retired oncologist worked at before joining the O&H group. The head doctor at that hospital is also involved with the Lymphoma Research Foundation and works with the other Drs in LRF with new types of treatments and such. They do have several other Drs who do specialize in Hematology so if I don't feel confident in my new dr I can ask about one of the others.
