When to eat ice cream?

Next Friday will be my 6th infusion on FOLFOX. It's summer and very hot!! I haven't had an ice cream yet and I am craving for it so badly!!! But I am so scared that I might have a throat 'spasm'. I know by experience the jaw spasm goes away a few days after the pump is taken off, but how about the throat? I need your advice on this, please.

    Ice Cream

Take a tiny taste and see how it goes.  For me, thecold sensitivity only lasted 3-4 days after infusion.

    Take care,

    Betsy

    Everyone is different so it's

Everyone is different so it's hard to say. I didn't really get the throat spasm, but I got theat awful swallowing crunchy stuff feeling pretty badly. And I had it all the way through by the time I'd reached about halfway through my treatments. I agree about taking a tiny bit and seeing how it goes. Maybe go to Dairy Queen and ask for a baby sundae. It's free and they just give a blob of it.

    Good advice JanJan

When at my Oncologist office I asked him for some water. I took a drink of the chilled water and had a reaction.

He said I guess you have sensitivity. I stayed away from cold drinks for awhile, I eat ice cream now.

I also had a reaction when I ate any foods for 30 seconds or so, sweets were the worst. Kinda like pain in my jaw muscles, I never choked.

    Good Luck

    Craving

I've been craving for ice cream as well, my therapy is usually every second week, I got an extra week this time, low blood work, had ice cream today, felt so good. Usually can't touch cold stuff when on 2 week schedule.

Like people suggested, go easy initally, maybe let ice cream melt a bit.

Went to Winco yesterday, got me a couple pint of ice cream...marionberry pie and strawberry pie!!! And yes, they're both good!! It's alright to my throat, it didn't hurt me. Thank you all, my friends!! God bless us all. Enjoy the Summer even if we're still on this meds :(

    Yay!! Sounds like good

Yay!! Sounds like good flavours! I dont think we get those here. Canada often doesn't have the same things as elsewhere.

Wish I could send you these

Wish I could send you these flamers. Marionberry pie ice cream is very tasty! Now I'll think about you, Jan, every time I'll have a bite of ice cream :( But I bet you have better tasting ice cream flavors over there that we don't have here :D

    Ice cream

My throat reaction lasts for about the first five days, but my tongue and mouth is still really uncomfortable for the first couple of weeks.  I have been able to have ice cream during week #3 if I let it melt and warm up a little first.  Popsicles are just way too cold for me the entire time.

    I suffer through

It's pretty bad during the first few days. I get the "first bite syndrome", the tingling tongue and cheeks, and the crunchy throat. But, you know what? Little sips of a cold drink are barable, and small bites of ice cream, after a few days, are ok. I had my 8th cycle yesterday, and went to the Rangers / Red Sox game last night with my pump on. That was interesting for the "bag check".

Them: Sir, you must let us check your belly pack

Me: I have to take it through the metal detector with me... :-) It's attached...

The Diet Coke that I got was definitely crunchy untill the ice melted a bit. But, we just deal with what we have.

My Oxy nueropathy got worse in cycle 7, and looks to be the same in this cycle, but, I'll live through it. We just have to make sure that it doesn't get permanent.
