Hey all!  Just checking in.  For those that know me.  Caregiver for now almost 85 year old mom with Stage 4 RCC that has been stable for 5 years on 200 mgs of Votrient.  Sono shows 1.5 cm mass on thyroid that had no uptake on scan one year ago and no mention of it on report.  Says it has several 0.1 calcifications, mixed echogenicity, well defined contours, homogenous throughout parenchyma of both lobes.  They want to biopsy. Anyone have anything like this?  Always fun with cancer, never a dull moment.  We stay positive.  Hug's to all!

    Yep

When I went for my initial scans prior to surgery a spot on my thyroid lit up.  Two days after discharge for my partial I was back to Mayo for a biopsy where it was confirmed to be papillary thyroid cancer.  I had my thyroid removed a month after kidney surgery.  My first scans were clear and prognosis is good.  I'm hopeful everything works out for your mother.  Good luck

Thanks for the reply Stub!  I

Thanks for the reply Stub!  I guess kidney cancer wasn't enough so the thyroid chimed in. Glad they got it all.  Nothing lit up on the scan last year.  Tuesday is a new scan.  It is  good you got both of them early. Indeed makes a difference!  All the best to you.

I hope things went well with

I hope things went well with your Mom's results today.

I just had my thyroid removed the end of January. I had a multinodular goiter...biopsied a couple of times, but my oncologist was very concerned about it. He said RCC is the number 1 cancer mets to the thyroid....but rare. Luckily mine was benign - and there is no longer pressure in my neck!

Wishing best results for your Mom!

    Big hugs

    Hi Ange,

    Hi Ange,

You are so very sweet. They took my whole thyroid out - a bit unusual as usually they would only take the bad side out. But I believe the specialist was also concerned about the possible mets. The goiter had been wrapping itself around my windpipe, so now I am feeling much better! I haven't had any scans yet - coming up soon! Have you received results yet?

    Big hugs
