26 Year Old Female diagnosed with Melanoma

I was just diagnosed with Stage 1 Melanoma in my right lower eyelid. I am extremely upset and have always taken care of my skin. It's very scary being diagnosed so young. From what my dermatologist has told me, this is genetic. I have a couple questions for anyone who has or has dealt with Melanoma.  Support and encouragement would also be helpful too. Smile

-Has anyone had MOHs surgery on their face?

-How did your scar turn out?

-How are you doing now?

-What measures do you take now to proctect yourself from the sun?

Sending positive vibes to everyone on here!

    Hi JillyBean-

    Hi JillyBean-

I hope your surgery went well - one of my friends just had the same diagnosis - she had 40% of her lower eyelid removed in surgery - she is now 2 weeks out and is healing nicely.  I hope you are as well!

    wishing you the best!

I have stage III melanoma cancer on my left thigh my tumor was 6cm deep and in my lymph nides....It started from a childhood mole I had on my leg...I had it surgically removed on March 22....Then had a brain MRI and pet scan...Now I have a follow up appt tomorrow to have stitch removed and get test results....But today I get a call that my Dr has referred me to an oncologist this really scares me....Why would she do this even before my lymph node surgery....Does this mean they found cancer somewhere else....Any help with this questions might give me some piece of mind.....Just please be honest with any help or advise

I had a melanoma removed from

I had a melanoma removed from above my right eyebrow just over 2 months ago. Part of my eyebrow was removed and the surgeon tried to transplant hair follicles to replace the hair lost through surgery. I had a full skin graft taken from the hairline around my ear but unfortunately (a) it was wrongly placed, and (b) the hair started growing the wrong way, and (c) the hair fell out after 5 weeks anyway. The scar itself is not too bad but the skin graft site is still taking its time to heal.  I was very lucky in that I caught the melanoma in the very early stages, i.e. it was only at 0.24mm in depth and had not spread when i was diagnosed. Luckily I'm not a girly-girl type of person or I would probably have got depressed over it all. Instead I play lots of sport and keep myself active. I don't even consider myself as a cancer survivor as at no stage did i ever feel or look ill and I didn't need any other follow-up treatment after surgery. I even went back to work a few days after surgery.

    Stage III C Melanoma

    Hello Flicklisa,

I have stage III C Melanoma on the right side of my neck. I had surgery on March 21 to have the mass and all of my lymph nodes on the right side of my neck removed. It is scary not knowing what going to happen next. I personally have 2 oncologists that I work with. One is my Radiation Oncologist and the other is my Medical Oncologist. If they send you too the radiation oncologist your doctor just wants to make sure that ALL of the cancer is gone in that area. Now with the medical oncologist they will help make sure that IF and I mean IF the cancer moved somewhere else they will help kill the cancer off. With melanoma, normal chemo does not work very well. So they will most likely give you immunotherapy. It makes you immune system go into overdrive and kill off things that should not be there. That is what I will began in a week or so along with my radiation. So just remember that the doctors want to do over kill on cancer. So if they say radiation do it and if the say immunotherapy do it. It does not mean the cancer has spread they just want to make sure the kill every bit of cancer. I wish you the best.
