New to board.

Back in late Sept I had a total hysterectomy. We knew my cervix had cancer cells but was not sure about the uterus. When they removed my uterus they determined it was cancerous and also removed the lymph nodes.

On my follow up, my pap smear came back abnormal. Upon further examination the doctor found some lesions that he will be removing on Friday.  There is a possibly that he may also have to remove part of my vagina, depending on what he finds.

Has anyone had this type of surgery/procedure? What could/should I expect?

This whole cancer situation scares me and I don't want to be a burden to my family and those I thought were friends are not there for me to talk to.

I know I sound like I am whining, but it hurts that my "friends" don't take the time to ask if I need or want to talk.

Lynda, I am a visitor from

Lynda, I am a visitor from the Uterine board, so while I can't comment on your type of cancer I wanted to write and say you are not alone.  Terrifiying???  ABSOLUTELY.  I need to find a link for you but I am running out the door.  PLEASE, please come back later.  There is a National Cervical Cancer Coalition out there....there may be more women there who may be able to chime in.

I am sorry to hear about friends, sometimes we don't want to tell family everything, but there are people out here in the WORLD WIDE WEB who can relate.  I would caution, "don't want to be a burden to my family" - everytime women have said that there family members often say "We wish we had known!!"  Please don't feel that way -you need support and you will find someone.

    You are not alone

Lynda, I'm not a cervical cancer survivor but a vular cancer survivor. Yup a chunk of my vagina is gone along with the lymph nodes from the groin. Anytime you want to talk I'm, here. Life goes on. we move forward and survive. A lot of the battle with cancer is in your mind. Having a positive attitude and believing you can overcome this is key. I will pray for you. In the mean time watch what you eat. Sugar feeds cancer so try not to consume much. When I was first diagnosed I went through all the stages of grief before I could get my head around it and accept that I had cancer and would lose parts of my body. Be patient with yourself and with others who would like to support you. You CAN do this! There are survivors!

    Laura, thank you for posting.

Laura, thank you for posting.  I can't imagine what you, and all the women who have vulvar cancer have gone through.  I would want to find someone to talk to who has gone through it and can answer questions no one else could.  Please continue to visit the board for the ladies who need you.

I just had a partial vaginectomy

for a metastatic tumor in my vagina.  My surgeon brought in a plastic surgeon in case I needed reconstruction.  We felt certain that I'd need dilation before I could become sexually active again, but I didn't need any dilation nor plastic surgery.  It's no fun, but I'm doing fine, doing everything normal at 4 months post-op.

Hi Lynda, I'm so sorry you're

Hi Lynda, I'm so sorry you're going through this. I had vaginal cancer & had about 1/3 of my vaginal wall removed & reconstructed. It was scary, but it's something you can make it through. During my treatments & surgery, I stayed away from the Internet, I didn't find this site until afterwards. Looking back, I wish I had found it sooner. It helps so much when you can find someone who knows what you are experiencing. You can do this!! I am 5 years out from stage 4a, been all clear since treatment & surgery. I wish you all the best & please keep us posted. I'm sending you positive thoughts & prayers.

Infinity52, I am so sorry to

Infinity52, I am so sorry to hear this.  I think this board can sometimes be quiet, and when a friend told me her daughter was diagnosed with cervical cancer, I sent her this chat room to look at as well:
    https://www.inspire.com/groups/national-cervical-cancer-coalition/

I went to this site when I wanted to read about cervical cancer for a friend.  While you might find the other site more helpful, please let us know how you are doing.  Please work with a gynecologic oncologist.  While I am a visitor from the Uterine board, you are not alone.
