wondering if Hearing loss has been an issue with Carbo

After Chemo #1, experienced long, long list of issues. One was numb (like novacaine wearing off) teeth, achy left ear and throat. I still have a slightly achy ear so I decided to visit an audiologist before next chemo to get a baseline hearing test so I can monitor any problem or progression problem with my hearing. i am hoping it dissipates before next chemo but will be watching closely. Apparently, Cisplatin is the greatest offender but Carboplatin may also cause high pitch hearing loss, was wondering if anyone had this issue.

    My hearing isn't good and

My hearing isn't good and carbo could have effected it, but it would be hard time o tell if it is from the carbo or just old age and heredity catching up to me.

    Ears ringing

I don't know if it's the cause but I've noticed my ears are sensitive at some points and others I've found I had to turn up the tv, radio etc.  My ears have been ringing lightly - like far off and I have slight headaches.  I am hoping that all goes away along with the blurry vision that comes and goes also.

Hang in there- you are being proactive and that helps you be in control of what you can be in control of.

Hope you are having a good night!  (((HUGS)))

    hearing loss

My ears started acting strangely right  after first chemo in november 2010  and I feel my hearing still hasn't

recovered even today.  I think part of the reason is the small hairs in ears being destroyed by chemo.  I had carboplatin.

I guess this is part of the price for still being alive (Iwas stage 4B!).

    Hearing Loss after Carboplatin

    Hi Scotgirl,

Three years after the Carboplatin/Taxol regimen, I still have tinnutus and other nerve problems. Though I have not had my hearing tested, I do not think I've had any hearing loss. I applaud your vigillance to protect and monitor your own health. You are doing the right thing.

I am gad you are on this board. I tried to respond to your first post, but it was late at night and I somehow deleted what I'd written and was too tired to go back! Glad you are here, sorry for the circumstances. -j

Thank you for your comment. As far as I know, I am still in remission-

5 years and 8 months.  Remember that I am BRCA 2 positive and BRCA people in

some cases have longer  remissions. Catscan in December will tell if my good

fortune continues. So glad to give hope.

    hearing issues

Yeah...I had carboplatin/taxol...just finished 6 rounds October 11, 2016...had intermittant pain in my ears that has not happened since round 3 or 4...but I have weird ringing in my ears almost all the time as well as other "crickety" sounds...find myslef asking people to repeat what they say WAY more than I used to...I have not had me hearing tested in a LONG time...pretty sure what I have been experiencing is from chemo...not completely sure this isn't why my balance and coordination has diminished signifigantly...wondering if that will return...going to an audiologist is an excellent idea!!!
