Good morning fellow Cancer peeps, most of you don't know me but my name is Brooks (username Just4Brooks) and I was  diagnosed in 2009. I was A very active member back in the day and knew almost everybody on CSN. I thought I'd log on and see who's if any of us old timers are still around. So please stop in and say hello, and give a short update on how things are going.

    Checkin' in

Hey Brooks!  I am not here very often anymore but I am still very involved locally with Rumpshakers, ACS, TOUCH, and Hope Lodge. So glad I checked in tonight and saw your post.

I am going on 7 yrs. diagnosis. Have lots of permanent side effects ( neuropathy, chemo brain, strictures, etc. ) but I am still kicking. I recently took an early social security as I finally realized that going back to work was really not an option.

I read your other post re: "Neuropathy" and I am sorry to hear that it is causing you such grief. I have learned to adapt somewhat after multiple falls and accidents. Opiates don't even touch the pain that I have but believe it or not Meloxicam ( Mobic ) does. It is awfully harsh on the stomach but sometimes it is worth it to get a little relief from the foot/leg/hand/arm pain :) Good to see you and Alice both. I miss Y'all. Maybe we should think about coming back more often....

-Pat aka jaylo ....Yikes, My profile picture is gone!

    Still here

too.  Robert, DH, dx in 12/08 IV.  Still in active treatment.  Taking Lonsurf at the moment.  Pretty rough on him. Fatigue, nausea, vomiting. Nothing like FOLFOX or FOLFRI.  He has the neuropathy, too, 18 months out from Folfox.  Getting ready for SIRT procedure on his liver tumors later this month.

    Best to all

    Still here after 11 years!

Diagnosed Stage 4 in May 2005.  Sigmoid resection.  Xeloda/oxy/avastin.  NED by 12/2005.  Lung resetion due to recurrence in 4/2009.  NED since.  I don't come here much more as treatments may have changed and I don't know so many people.

    Good luck all!

Am I an old timer? :D

If so, I'm around, just not commenting as often.

Dx'ed stage 4 in 2009, I'm glad to be able to say that through sheer luck I'm still NED, going on 5 years.

    Still here

Dx Feb 2004. Still undergoing treatment for lung mets but doing well overall. I recently bought my third kayak. While I've lost a good chunk of my lung capacity it doesn't really affect my kayaking.

I'm not on this site often but it was helpful for a time.
Unfortunately we've lost many of the old timers...

    Aloha Brooks

i sometimes wonder how you're doing.  I remember you were the first to reach out to me when I got diagnosed in Sept. 2009.  I was so scared and your friendship and advice were really appreciated.  I've been doing really well except for neuropathy in my feet and a little in my hands but I consider that to be a small price to pay for my life. It's been so depressing for me to see that a lot of the people I "grew up" with are now gone so I rarely post although I read the posts fairly often.  My onc told me that if I have 1 more good CEA reading, he was going to cut me loose. What a happy day that will be! I don't think about cancer so often these days but pray that it never returns. It was nice seeing you again.  Take care and keep in touch.

    Here and doing well

Just had scans and labs last week and I am in year 5 since end of all treatments and still happy to report No Evidence of Disease- from an initial Stage IV diagonisis with rectal cancer and three lung mets.  Best of luck and prayers to everyone currently in this fight. Wishing all the best.

    Been around 10 years

I was diagnosed with stage I colon cancer in March of 2006. I had a resection to remove the tumor in my cecum. No further treatment since then, but I have had six colonoscopies. I don't check in here very often as it breaks my heart to lose members of this board. I have been NED since surgery 10 years ago. I am doing well although I still have colon issues occasionally. Cancer messes with your mind and definitely changed my attitude toward life in general. Last fall my husband and I moved to Florida without knowing a soul, but we felt that God was leading us here. Moving halfway across the country was not anything I would have even considered before cancer but we did it and couldn't be happier.

    I'm more of a newbie 2012 but

I'm more of a newbie 2012 but glad to see you still here from 2009.  I came on when a lot of people from your group were saying goodbye and that was ROUGH!  I miss them, they were fantastic people.  It's good to see all of you who did make it through.  Hope eternal.

I've had the stuff since Sep.

I've had the stuff since Sep. '07, but didn't sign in until 2013. Even then, I've seen enough come and go to know this place is great support and a heartbreak. Such is life, giving with one hand and taking with the other.........................Dave
