    If you are

anything like me, you are going to be so happy not having to deal with all the crappy side effects from your previous treatments. Good luck!

    got good news for you

this past summer i did a regamin of opdivo with yervoy.  i had been on sutent for 4 years but it stopped working.  i was in VERY bad shape in summer, lost 15 kg, so weak could not sit up, lungs filled with diseased tissue, hemoglobin at 8, and frankly it looked terminal.  the mixed opdivo-yervoy regimen lasted 3 months, then continued just opdivo.  the opdivo itself has almost no side effects, altho yervoy had some, but not too bad.  bottom line, 6-8 months later, the effectiveness of the treatment has been so remarkable that my case is talk of the town where i am (israel).  lungs almost completely cleared, weight recovered, hemoglobin at 15, i climb hills and stairs.  one drawback - without the yervoy the opdivo does not work as well, but there are risks of doing the yervoy - there is some risk of stroke.

    Nivo

Don't worry Footstomper. Nivo is a walk in the park I have been on it fortnightly for nearly 10 months - the worst side effect I have developed is a small rash and one lousy mouth ulcer which only had the nerve to hang around for 4 days!   Enjoy!

Footstomper, to reiterate what Fox and others have already posted – You are going to love being on at PD-1 drug.  Being on Keytruda, I have not suffered from any side effects at all. - BDS

    Good for you Footstomper

Had my first infusion on Feb 18th. Was there 3 hrs... first hour and a half was a tour of the infusion center, shown where all the bathrooms were, the patient kitchen where free juice , water, soup crackers, microwave and fridge were, and the full information about Nivo and who, when, and where to call if side effects occur. The infusion is made up fresh in the oncology pharmacy , and fixed according to your at the moment weight. That only was 1 hr start to finish. I took a nap.

as to side effects, I had none, expect none, and am considering selling off my stash of Cottonell moist wipes... Have no need anymore... Woo hoo

    Thanks you lot

No side effects, no need for tthe moist towelettes. Still knackered all the time but that might be custom rather than symptom.

Of course I dont know how well its working on Darth Tumour, but the head of NIH has told my wife that if I need a second opinion he is available.

    Which is nice.

I raise a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon and wish you all the luck and all the luv you wish me.

Stupid question. If the side effects are so minimal with Nivo (opdivo) why don’t they start people on them to begin with? Why Votrient and/or Avastin first when the side effects are so horrible for most people?

    The current protocol

for the administration of nivo is that it is to be used after failing a TKI. A tyrosine kinase inhibitor like sutent or votrient. Probably cost related.
