Ladies in Florida

I was thinking that there are several of us who live in Florida. Perhaps we can arrange a getogether  in the new year. I feel so close to the people on our board and I thought we all might enjoy meeting in person. I live halfway between Tampa and Orlando. Let me know what you think!  Sandy

    Hi Sandy,

I love that idea.  I live in Inverness which is 1.5 hours or so to either Tampa or Orlando. I think there are a couple more ladies that live North of both of us.

I would be willing to host a gettogether at my home or drive to meet everyone some where else.

We are going to have to start an email to plan this out. :-)

    Love and Hugs,

    Cindi

    A great idea, Sandy!

I live on the east coast, 90 miles southeast of Disney World.  Tampa is about 2.75 hours away from my home.  Maybe Orlando would be a good place to meet.  That's only 1.5 hours from my home.   Let's see if we have any other women who respond to your post.  I feel so alone with this cancer and met only one woman during chemo with a grade 3 endometrial cancer.  Not sure what type she had-UPSC, Endometriod, Clear Cell or MMMT.  I also feel very close to the women here and it would mean a great deal to me to meet some of you wonderful women in person.  It saddened me that I never got to meet our beloved Ro.  I think I went to Moffitt when she was up in the Chicago area.

A Warm Hug to my Dear Sisters,

There are lots of great options but my family has been going to Sanibel Island for years- beautiful beaches with lots of shelling, beach front condos and cottages you can rent by the week. Plus great atmosphere- much of the island is zoned as preserves so it is not all built up. There are plenty of boating, fishing and water activities available. We love the laid back atmosphere and the beauty of the island.

    Agree with Sandy

Sanibel is a beautiful place to vacation. Especially if you are looking for a peaceful place instead of the hussle and bussel of the theme parks.

So glad to see you planning something fun Cucu!  Do you have hair yet? Are your legs better? I think of you often. :-)

I have been to Sanibel Island and it really is a beautiful place to visit. The ocean is calmer on the west side of Florida than it is on the east side. Here, in Indian River county, we have a resort run by Disney called Disney Vero.  It is right on the ocean and is only 90 miles from Disney World.  I sometimes go to Disney Vero for lunch with a friend who has been treated for ovarian cancer.  There is a veranda on the second floor overlooking the ocean and it is a great spot for lunch and good company.  Sebastian Inlet is nearby and boost one of the best places to fish and go surfing. Lots of shops along the ocean, too.  I also like Key West as it has everything!

    What about St. Augustine?

I have ony been there once about 15 years ago. We stayed in a B&B. And only for one night and day so we didn't see too much of the area. I remember a lot of little shops that were fun to explore and we did some kind of a night tour where they told a story.

Cathy and Sandy - Do either of you have input on this place?  It popped into my head this morning so thought I would mention it as well.

    St.Augustine is very nice

Cindi, St.Augustine really was fun to visit. It's the oldest city in the U.S.A. and there is a lot to see. Cucu the weather where I live in east central FL has an average high of 74 in Feb and an average low of 51. Look up Vero Beach on MapQuest and you can see where I live. I live in the subtropics but if you go further south-Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Key West- in the tropics it is always nice weather in February.

The weather has been quite warm lately-in the mid-80's- but we are expecting a cool front by tomorrow. I can't wait for it!

    Florida weather

It has been an unusually warm winter so far. I live in central Fl between Tampa and Orlando and today was the coolest day we have had in weeks- high was in the low 70's and it is supposed to go down to the 50s tonight. We went to Disney and the weather was perfect! Usually we get some cold fronts in Feb but I think this year will continue warmer than usual. So if you want to spend time at the beach, it should be OK. And this is Florida, even with a severe cold front it doesn't stay cold long and usually warms up quite a bit during the day. Winter here is very pleasant and very little rain. In general it is a great place to vacation from mid October through the end of April. After that it is hot and humid!

By the way, there are really so many great vacation spots here! As I said, we love Sanibel but the Keys, Miami Beach, Ft Lauderdale, the huge national beaches at Cape Canaveral, Vero Beach etc are all great vacation spots as well. Just depends on what your looking for as far as other activities go. The weather is warmer in south Florida and while there you can visit the Everglades, the keys and the great beaches on Miami Beach and in Ft Lauderdale. There are lots of great restaurants and nightlife as well. But it is not as laid back as the central Fl beaches on both the east and west coasts of Fl. Fishing and water sports abound where ever you go.  Hope this helps! Sandy

    I'm officially jealous (it's 20 here)

OK, as I shiver in my warm home post chemo, I dream of your warm weather.  I can pile on the throws and sweats and still be cold today, so thanks for the day dreaming.

    Also jealous

It has been -7 here for the last few days for a low.  With a little luck we may see 30 by Thursday, but that will bring snow.  I wish I was closer to Florida. it would be a lovely place to visit in the winter.  We have been to Destin but it was in the summer and very hot and humid.  Our son lives an hour's drive from there in Alabama.  Just beautiful beaches and we saw dolphins playing.

Hugs and prayers to all.  Lou Ann

Your cold weather is supposed to arrive here by morning.  No sunshine so will just have to get my vitamin D in a pill form.  Florida ladies, enjoy getting yours from nature.

    We love Florida especially

We love Florida especially the gulf side.  We've been down there the past six winters but don't think we'll make it this year.  We want to retire in 2017 and spend our winters in Dunedin (just north of Clearwater Beach).  We spent some time there last winter and just loved the laid back life of that small town.  Spring, summer and fall are fine here but Wisconsin winters are way too long and cold!!

    Love,
