Just had tumor removed

I am one of the fortunate ones. In March I fell on ice and ended up with a brain bleed. While being treated for that they did an abdominal and pelvic CT scan. It showed a 4 cm (approximately 3/4 inch) mass. Three months later it was rescanned and I was told there was a good chance if was cancerous because it grew slightly and more importantly the texture changed. I had to put off surgery a bit but had it done on the 12th. I was able to go home last night. The surgeon said it had negative margins but he is pretty sure it is cancer. I get the official results in a couple weeks. I still have a catheter though and will have for another 3 days because the mass was in the area of the kidney where the urine drains out. My biggest worry is of not being able to urinate after the catheter comes out. I hope and pray I will not have to have a catheter forever lol. Irrational fear no doubt but still it is in the back of my mind.

    Biggest worry?

They took my catheter out ( not fun!) and I couldnt pee, so they just put he catheter right back for a few hours. No probs. But I dont think I'd want to take it up as a hobby.

They took my catheter out the third day when I went home but I had a drain which I had for a week since my tumor was close to the collecting duct.

Well, at least it is over and now recovery begins. We're here for you, so remember that!

Do not rush this recovery please.

Sorry about the catheter. There are folks I  know who have to cath themselves all day long, due to another illness.

At least yours will come out soon enough.

    Sending you healing thoughts!

    Gentle hugs, Jan

    Thank you everyone!

I have done some research and am feeling better about my chances lol. I know there are people who need to cath all the time so it could definately be worse. I consider myself blessed because things have gone incredibly well so far. That and I have a lot of people behind me including my wife who has taken amazing care of me. It makes a huge difference. I have been able to get up and walk around and even went with my wife to the grocery store though I used one of their electric carts and did no lifting.

    Yes, it's important to walk

Yes, it's important to walk so that's a good thing you're out and about. So glad things are going well for you and you have a good support system and a great wife. Speedy recovery and may that cath come out pronto!

cath is out, life is good!

Cath came out this morning. Nowhere near as bad as the horror stories. It amazed me how far in there it needed to be. I am able to urinate and there is NO burning sensation which amazes me! God is awesome! Without Him I don't know where I'd be! Thank you everyone for your support. I go back to the doc in about a week and should get the biopsy results.

    Varies

When I had mine removed the first time I went right away no problem, the second time I had surgery it took a couple of days to get going and they used the insta caths it is scarier looking than it actually is.  Hang in there.
