hi all,

i have been trying to research anti cancer diet. Came across a number of sites suggesting dairy is not good for cancer. most doctors recommend extra dairy during cancer treatment to ensure patients get enough calcium in the diet. no doubt most people on this site would have researched into an anti cancer diet. Would love to know your findings on this. Also, any particular site, diet or book that you found helpful would be great. Thank you.

I also go by the Anti Cancer book. I have found working with a Naturopath Oncologist ( a Naturopath with extended training with cancer and has a high percent of patients going through cancer treatment) helpful

there has been a bit of literature on Gluten and grains. I was having issues with my lymph nodes after chemo,  demonstrating potential cancer where as after 72 lymph nodes removed during surgery all was good.  Naturopth put me on no Gluten and grains, no sugar and processed foods, grass fed beef, pastured chicken, no cows milk, goats or sheep milk and only raw cheeses.  Once I changed my diet the lymph nodes went back to normal.    I have never felt better and all my original non cancer markers,(elevated blood pressure,  little high sugar, etc...) went to normal.

My naturopath believes in green smoothies with "minial fruit" mostly veggies rather than juicing. I guess that is a preference.  Reason is the fiber from the green smoothie.  So i have a kale/SPinach with almond milk smoothie daily.

Let me know if I can help out with anything.  Jan was a big inspiration to me with this and I learned a lot from her and others

Thank you for the info. i have placed an order for this book. Looking forward to reading it. i do think diet specific to our needs can help a lot! Also I have heard about "from cancer to wellness" book. It suggests raw vegan diet as a way of fighting cancer. It has worked for a few people. Not sure if anyone on this site has tried it and how they responded to it.

    raw vegan versus Paleo

I have been hearing two schools of thoughts.  The Paleo concept for cancer and overall health has made a come back.  My naturopath believes in high quality 100% organic grass fed beef/pastured chicken but in moderation. I do have some red meat but not a lot.  The Paleo does preach eat foods in their natural state - raw.  i will look at the book you suggested.  I have found eating foods in their natural format makes me feel real good.  Fermented foods with natural probiotics as well as sprouted seeds and nuts have been recommended.  Unfoturnatly you can go crazy with the different schools.  My theory is you do what makes you feel the best as healthy mind/healthy body go together.  Let me know what you find out about the raw vegan diet.

    carrots

per my naturopath we are all looking for the miracle cure.  We did discuss folks use of carrots,  what type of cancer and what else was going on

i do know that juciing carrots has a lot of sugars in the juice and cancer loves sugar.  So my naturopath said be REAL careful with jusing lot's of carrots in this capacity

    hope this helps

    anti cancer diet

I'm drinking juice from carrots and beet, lemon, ginger, potato, sometimes something else for about 10 days. I was diagnosed on April 15.

I also eat only salads, fruit not that much and almonds. Everything organic, mostly raw. Checking my ph daily, few days was 7, but then 5-6...

My surgery is scheduled for May 11.  Endometrial adenocarcinoma, grade 3, no stage yet.

My best wishes to you during surgery.

I also had adenocarcinoma, clear ccell, stage 2. Finished treatment July 2011.

I am vegan and eat organic, except when I eat out. I juice once a day, Monday through Friday, eat salads every day, fruits, beans and nuts. Because I do not eat animal products, my diet is high in carbs. I feel great!

Keep us posted about your surgery, please!

    Fayard, you sound so hopeful.

My plan is after the surgery to add nuts and beans to my diet.

I wonder now, why when I eat only vegetables and some fruit my ph went from about 6-7 to 4-5.

    I will keep you posted.

    Fourfold Path to Healing

There is a doctor in San Francisco, Dr. Cowan, that works with a lot of cancer patients and has a dietician prescribe a Cancer Prevention Diet. I just received the plan a few days ago. It is quite restrictive, but I do have energy and a clear mind while following it. Once my lab results come back from my radical hysterectomy and they stage my cancer, I will have a phone consultation with him to see what additional supplements or treatments he suggests. I'd encourage you to Google his website - in the Subject title. He was amazing at helping me diagnosis my daughter's seizures, who has now been seizure free for three years.  He is a medical doctor that decided he needed to get down to the cause of illness and treat them vs. simply prescribing medication after medication. I hope this helps.

    So many things to learn

Do any of you use flaxseed or curcumin? I had been using them then my onco said take nothing even natural that is like estrogen. I have read conflicting info on this, would love to hear from anyone who knows about this.

    I take curcumin

I am not aware of any studies/articles that show curcumin is like estrogen.  I did not take it during chemo, even though there are some studies that show it can increase the cytotoxicity of some common chemo drugs, including taxol.  It is also an iron chelator, and I was concerned about low iron during chemo as I was borderline anemic and didn't want to take the chance.   I eat flaxseed in small quantities with other seeds, such as chia and sesame.  I think most studies with flaxseed have been inconclusive to this point.
