    Steroids
They told me the Dexamethasone (oral steroids) were for nausea, so I took them religiously before and after my chemo. I didn't have the side effects you describe, except I did have trouble sleeping for a couple of nights.

    sleepless

Did you notice an increase in your appetite or weight gain of any kind?

    Bone pain
I'm just curious, are those of you suffering from bone pain getting a neulasta injection? I was told that causes bone pain.

    steroids

Hi Susan - I understood taking & having the dexametha sone was to help avoid an alergic reaction.  I did hjave red face throiugh most of my chemo for about 5 days --- I did have to inject n eupogen  at one point to try to raise my neutrophils - I learned bone pain was a side effect - so I figured I was reallky suffering bone pain but now a year later I stil have basically the same aches & pains ->  so I assume what I felt back then was the beginning of my neuropathy ( nerve damage) from the carbo polatin.

    just another experience inthis journey.

    I really dislike steroids.
I really dislike steroids. I had them before chemo but never after. They make me want to eat the wallpaper.

" They make me want to eat the wallpaper."

I had to laugh when I read this comment.  Yes, the steroids put me on an eating frenzy, there just wasn't enough food to fill me up.  My husband brought home a dozen donuts from Walmart one Sunday morning...........big mistake, I was visiting the "day old" bakery rack every couple of days, if a dozen donuts even lasted me that long.  I still ate "healthy", but the donuts were just additional.  I got the steroids in my pre chemo cocktail, and also took them orally each day; the Dr. told me they were to keep up some level of energy.  And, yes, the downside also was insomnia, even though I take a sleeping pill. After treatment ended (yay!) I weaned off the steroids but have yet to lose the extra weight they helped me put on. I can deal with that; I exercise daily in the pool and eat yummy salads and homemade soup for lunch most days.......slow and steady............but I still enjoy eating!

    chemo drugs and bone pain

Is your bone pain from neulasta?  If it is, taking Claritin beginning the day before the neulasta and for a couple of days more, might help.  Nothing proven, but many women have found it useful.  It has worked for me.  I have wondered about asking for a decrease in the steroid dose, . .

I am having the very same

I am having the very same side effect and took my days 2-3neds. This is my 3rd day with energy....it must be the steroids right?!? Chemo does the opposite effects so I'm wondering how I could have insomnia energy, fever and flush all at the same time? Should I be worried?!? This can't be normal.

claira, this is a pretty old

claira, this is a pretty old thread as you can see from the dates.  Sadly, some of the women on it no longer post.  Steroids are powerful as are the chemo drugs we have been given.  Since everyone is different drugs effect everyone differently.  The would suggest giving the doctors office a call and see if they have heard this.  Chemo, which can cause constipation for most of us has had a complete opposite effect for others!
