Colonoscopy tomorrow

Not really worried about my colon as my cancer was rectal and I think that total removal took care of things locally. I'm very relaxed. My next scan is going to be when the anxiety hits. It'll be the two year mark which will put me in the clear and in a great position.  That means I have until July to just be. It feels nice to just be again. Looking forward to spring and gardening.

    Good luck tomorrow!

Hope you get the all clear!  I do have a question.  You have a stoma, right?  How do they do the colonoscopy?  Does it go in through the stoma?  I recently had one and I am curious.  Traci

    Hey Helen,

I can't believe its been a year since your last colonoscopy. I had my one year in October. My oncologist says the standard is every 2 years after that. You are right. The scary thing is the scans. Interestingly lately I haven't been thinking about my cancer more than 4-5 times a day. Not too long ago it was more like a hundred. Probably because I work now and solved most of the challenges with my colostomy.

i wish you comfort and great results tomorrow.

    Good

luck Helen. Happy you're calm about things cuz I know how stressful it can be. I've got a good feeling about you and my gut tells me you're going to be good. Keep us in the loop with results and know I have your back no matter what. I assume you're doing the prep now and I hope it goes smoothly (pun intended!) Ha!

    Good luck with that drink

I presume you do drink the drink. In fact, I also would like to know how a Colonoscopy goes for someone with 'The Bag'.

You will be fine for you scans as well.

    Hugs!

I won't tell you not to worry because that is never going to happen . just take it a day at a time. That's all I have been doing all of the years of my survival,Hugs Ron.

    Yes they go through the

Yes they go through the stoma. Same prep only you use the long bags that they use for irrigation for your cleanout or you'll have mahem.  I didn't have them last year and it was a disaster.   A scene right out of The Omen.  I only have to use half of the prep and I get full clean out which I'm not sure is true of all people with stomas. Also you bring a spare wafer and bags to appt. so they dont have to worry about the one you have on. Easy peasy.  If you go on youtube and put in colostomy irrigation you can see the bags.  Whoever came up with them is a genius.

     I posted the method above.

I posted the method above. Yes the same prep only less of it.  Some people with stomas clean their colons out daily/every other day with a system called irrigation. Once I found those bags, the cleanout was much better! Last year was messy and long.  It's all a learning process with stomas.

I tried to cut and paste but I can't get it to work. Youtube - colostomy irrigation. Shows you the clean out process and the very nifty bag. I just wish it wasn't see through. Lol  Totally gross.

Helen - So glad to hear your good news.  That's wonderful.  Not sure when I'll have another colonoscopy but will definitely look this up online before doing it.  It would be a blessing to only have to drink half.  I can never get it all down in 2 hours anyway.  Take care and rest easy.  Traci

    Thanks all!  I didn't even

Thanks all!  I didn't even think about cancer once yesterday.  It's so nice to be in that state of mind sometimes.  I thought having this stoma would hold me cancer hostage for life.  Eating better meals as part of my daily routine has also helped me to move on.  It's become second nature instead of something I have to think about like I did in the beginning.

    Congrats on the scope results!

I've got a feeling that the scan will turn out just as good!
