Just a quick question? Did anyone have spiked fever after their surgery either robotic or open??? my husband has a bit of fever and was wounding if it's to be expected. The nurses got in touch with the doctor and he has given him a paracetamol drip. I am just hoping its nothing to be worried about.

Now that the surgery is over your husband is entitled to all of the perks of membership in our club, whatever they are. Some of the members have had fevers, make sure this is followed up with.

 

One of the bonuses of the pain medications is that they make you constipated. No one in their right mind wants to be constipated a week after their neph. Inquire about a stool softener now or when he is discharged.

 

He should be ready for Pizza and beer for the Superbowl (only a taste).

Try not to worry about fever, you are EXACTLY where to be if there is indeed cause for concern. Try not to worry, please! What I learned after my husband's robotic surgery is that the nurses and doctors will take EXCELLENT care of him and you will be OK TOO!! I remember where you are like it was yesterday, I know what it feels like to be in your shoes. They tylenol should help reduce the fever. Keep us updated, and I hope you are taking care of yourself.

Congratulations! With 4.5 cm tumor there are all chances that ir will be just a bump on the road!

Breathing exercises are standard procedure

Yes, keep on him for the breathing exercises they are important but definately a STANDARD procedure. Anyone that is sedated under intubation does these to keep the lungs moving after being under anesthetic, they help prevent post operative issues.

Absolutely do the breathing

Absolutely do the breathing exersizes. I continued doing them for weeks after I got home. Also make sure he drinks a lot of water (if allowed, which I'm sure by now it is) and walks, walk, and walks, some more. Hope he's released home soon!

today things seem to be a lot better. Husband is walking a lot more. Fever has passed too and also some minor discomfort he was having. Doctor said we can go home on Friday. He is very happy to stay till then as they're taking very good care of him here. just glad he is feeling better.

Keep us posted. I had the same size and lost the whole kidney due to the position of the tumor.

I am NED (no evidence of disease) a year later!!

Jan, I am so happy to hear you are NED!! That is hopefully news for us as well hearing about people with a good outcome. It's so funny how this thing takes of your life in a way. We are now waiting for the official biopsy report. And I am trying to stay positive but I won't deny that I worry at some moments that something will take a turn for the worse. For now I am pleased surgery went well and I have decided to just take it one day at a time and keep his spirits up in the process.

 

Just another question though Jan, how soon after the surgery did you have any testing done??

Well, for me, I was told from the consult with my Urologist/surgeon that I was probably Stage 1 due to its size being small enough. The final pathology report stated the same. Lucky! AND I was so well prepared because I came on this site for support and information.

Yes, my follow up has been every 6 months, first year, then I think I go to a year. I find out tomorrow. Just had my one year scan completed. Also, you CAN go and get your own copy of Path report ahead of your doctor's appointment. I did. They are ususally dictated in a day or two, transcibed into your record, then Medical records let you know when the result is available. You have to pay a little per page and sign a release form.

In fact I get my all radiology or test reports ahead of time, before I see any doctor. Ironically it was ME that initially caught some serious mistakes by two different radiologists and demanded that they reports be corrected. What they do actually is make an addendum with the correction. Still my surgeon spoke to them as well. He was not happy.

This time I didn't get the CT scan report. I see my doctor tomorrow. Now not all folks want to know ahead of time what the report shows, either because you may not understand what it means (often) or it could freak you out unnessarily. I am okay with knowing so I can ask informed questions when I do see my doctors

Actually, I have never, ever been concerned the cancer, as I have other medical issues that take up my daily life. If it were more serious. I would still come in prepared and ready for the next step. Yet, I a not being naive either. I try not to worry.  What good does worrying ever get you? So, I get as much information ahead of time and come prepared to my doctor appointments with questions. BUT.. that's ME!

Not sure what kind of patient your hubby is, but he cannot RUSH his healing. He doesn't want hernias or any complications. His INSIDES are healing!! Even if he feels much better, I was told 30 days before any exercise, except walking. And again, I used that lumbar wrap to support the incision area while it was healing.
