    No

You sound like you are going thru typical post surgery aches and pains. Check with your doctor for sure. Tell us a little more about you here or on your bio so we can try and help you.

The inevitable pain from major surgery!!

Hi John, I hope everything went well on Monday, are you still awaiting your path report? Pain yes!!! You have just had a major complex operation, it would be very strange indeed if you weren't feeling any pain at the surgery site. Don't you feel pain when you have a tooth removed? in this case you have just had a major organ removed. You will feel pain until the inflamation has gone down and the nerves, tissue, muscle etc. have healed. Take things slowly, walk as much as you can each day without over doing it. It is also important to keep hydrated and take care not stretch and lift anything too heavy as you can cause a hernia. You really have to be very protective of your body right now.

Apart from the (surprising) pain how are you doing?

No, it's not in your head.

They went in there and rearranged your insides, cutting nerves, muscle tissue, veins and arteries. They removed a major organ which left a void into which your other organs are now probably settling into. If you didn't feel pain I would be very surprised. It's only been one day so be patient and don't be afraid to use the pain killers they prescribed to you. Feel well soon!

Thanks! I feel good and have

Thanks! I feel good and have not had to use the pills much. I have a pain in the site but it's not bad at all. Thanks for the information. I don't get path report .till Wednesday. So from what doctor has said there is nothing she can see that has spread anywhere else.

    About me!!!

Found out four weeks ago I had kidney cancer. It started with passing blood and pain in my bad. The pain was really bad and I went to er in town. I live in Ashland, KY. I really thought I had a stone. Well I was wrong. Doctor told me about mass on my left kidney. The next day I was in surgeons office and last Monday gave birth to a six pound tumor. Now waiting to see her and chart next course ofor action.

I can still remember 3 months

I can still remember 3 months ago I was in your shoes......The first few days up to two weeks is terrible.....I couldn't sleep without waking up every hour - 24 hours a day.....my stomach likes a volcano that wants to explode but couldn't .....And one thing I discovered that causing it is AIR....the stomach is bloated everytime.......moving and walking as much as you can helps you release those air inside.....taking some simethicone(fast gas) over rhe counter helps me a lot in releasing those air and easing the pain......

    Hi John,
    I also had kidney

    Hi John,

I also had kidney surgery on monday.  My mass originally measured 4.5 cm, but when the surgeon removed it three weeks later, he said it was closer to 5 cm and oblong shaped.  I guess this could mean that the thing either grew almost a half a cm in 3 weeks or there was an incorrect measurement in the original CT scan.  Either way, it is out now due to an open partial nephrectomy, and my recovery has begun.  I can tell you that I also have a great deal of pain in odd places.  The incision site, under my ribs, my back, and even my lower abdomen on both sides hurt do to the fact that the doctor had to essentially cram all of my intenstines over toward the the other side of my abdomine in order to access my kidney.  He told me that this rearrangement would most likely cause some pain, and he was right.  I am as new to this as you are, but I guess I can say that this is a major surgery, and unfortunately a very painful one from which to recover.  Hang in there.

    Not in your head

As everyone has said, there will be lots of these strange new aches and pains for awhile. All are normal, but ANY worries or fears make sure you ask your Dr.

Time is a friend an I bet by the first of the new year, you will be feeling so so so much better 8-)

    Don't rush back to work

    John,

You just had major surgery. You are still tired and sore. Give it a few weeks before going back to work. When you do you are going to be exhausted at first and may not be able to put in a full day. At 4 to 6 weeks you are going to start feeling normal. If you work physical labor add to the times I have given you. You are over 50, you are not a young kid any more. My neph was at age 59. If you have a job where you can initially show up a few hours a day, try that at first.

Well to be honest it's not

Well to be honest it's not labor and I am going crazy here sitting. Lol! The doctor released me to go back on the 5th but also told me she would take me back off if I needed it. It's just been a hard year and I am glad to see it ends I was in the middle of a divorce when this cancer issue come up. So being in some quote normal routine would help my head. I will take is easy and see how it goes. Thanks for your support.

    Keeping my fingers crossed

Keeping my fingers crossed for you and hope it's not RCC. How did they find out about the swollen lymph node? Did they take any and biopsy them at the time of your original surgery?
