edited December 2014 in Colorectal Cancer #1

As previously reported in an earlier post... Surgery on 12/5 was long (6 hours) and more difficult than previous two liver resections. Removed 30 to 40% of liver. Removed gall bladder. Lost three pints of blood during surgery...  Ten days later I'm doing pretty good. I actually made it out of the hospital last Wednesday. That was 2-1/2 days sooner that previous resection surgeries. Doctors were very pleased with the speed of recovery thus far.

I'm scheduled to get staples out on Wed 12/17 and surgical drain out on 12/24.

Today I suffered a tad set back. I was doing so well I decided to wan off of the narcotic pain meds. So I stopped them two days ago. Nothing but Tylenol for this tough guy. Well suddenly today the pain was increased and continuous. And the muscle aches and pains all over seemed to add a twisted harmony to how terrible I was feeling. Needless to say I decided to continue some stronger pain meds a bit longer.

I also have home renovations going in right now and that was probably not the best choice. I really don't have to do anything but there is a stress during this change. Granite countertops went in yesterday. Kitchen is not usable yet. We are hoping the kitchen will be put back together later today. Then they will do the new backspash. Target completion is for Saturday. Just in time for Christmas.

Love and light to all of you during this Christmas season.

Wishing you all health, happiness, and especially overflowing Love.

    glad all is well

Thats great that the surgery went well. I'd worry about weaning off the painkillers once the pain has stopped. Right now, better to be kind to yourself.

So what will your new kitchen look like? What are the colors? Tiled backsplashes are in now, especially those glass tiles. What will yours look like?  I don't have granite although once I lived in a place with marble kitchen counters, and it was great for rolling out dough.  hope it is all done by Christmas.

all the best to you and family this holiday season

I know how you feel Phil. I

I know how you feel Phil. I wanted to stop pain meds while I was still in the hospital from my last liver resection and i got yelled at by the nurse. I have been trying to cut back again since my ablation last week. I also started riding the stationary cycle and increased my breathing exercises. i guess I went too far since i was in pain all night and finally had to break down and take a pain med this morning at work.

We are also in similar boats since you are remodeling in the midst of your physical challanges, I am in the midst of moving my wifes tailor shop. This weekend is the big move. We have to be up and running in 2 days at the new location and be completely out of the old location by the end of the month.

Hang in there. We will get through this together.

So good to hear from you...

and know you are doing well.  I don't think adding back the pain meds was really a set back, just a temporary necessity. You'll be off them soon enough.

I hope you kitchen work is completed soon, so that you can relax over this special Christ Mass season.

You are in my prayers for continued health and freedom from Cancer.

    Pain medicine

is not a setback. I don't like taking them either. Being big and tough means knowing to stay out of pain helps your healing process. Sounds like you're doing great. Hurray for the new kitchen. You're in my prayers

    Happy things went well

but hoping the pain goes away quickly. I know most of us hate taking the big guns pain meds, but it sounds like you may need them. Heal quickly!

I know what you're going through with the kitchen. We were out of commission for weeks and had to do dishes in the bathtub. What a pain in the neck! Hopefully your guys are faster! Let us see some pics if you have them. I'd love to see what you did. We removed light oak cabinets and put in brandy colored, taller cabinets. We replaced formica with granite and linoleum with tile. We also added a tile backsplash. It does cheer you up when it's done. I love going into my kitchen now. Best of luck with the new kitchen.

    Welcome home, Phil!  So happy

Welcome home, Phil!  So happy that things went well and you can sleep in your own bed, if not eat in your own kitchen :-).  Don't let the pain get ahead of you. It is hard to play catch up with pain. Go gently.

    Wonderful

Glad that you are home and just in time for the Christmas holiday.  Don't ever push yourself and you can see it will get you in trouble.  So happy to hear that you were doing good enough to go off the meds but sorry it caught up with you.  Welcome home and please stay there for awhile Laughing.

    Kitchen remodel update

Many of you asked for an update on the kitchen...  Our kitchen is functinal once again, but still not complete.  The faucet is hooked up but we are waiting for parts from Koehler to complete the permanent hookup.  The new granite, new sink, and new cooktop are all installed. Backsplash is scheduled to go up on Saturday.

    Thanks for the pictures

Its so fun to see your 'work in progress'.  I hope it all gets tied up soon.

I confess to being a little jealous. Our '70's kitchen is breaking down rapidly, with only three of our four burners working, and not well at that. But alas, our roof and siding had to get done first, and I doubt I'll ever have a working kitchen.

Continue to take care of yourself, and be 100% again.

    Looking Good Phil

Both you and the kitchen. Like Sue, I am a bit jealous. It has been 25 years since this old place was remodeled. Enjoy, enjoy!
