Wigs and what to do with them when done.

My aunt passed away in April of this year.  My cousin is trying to find out what she can do with the wigs my aunt accumulated.  Is there a place that will be able to pass them on to someone else who needs them from chemo.?   I suggested she contact Gilda's Club.  Any other suggestions?   Would appreciate any thoughts.

My aunt suffered from lots of illnesses including Uterine cancer.  She was a fighter.

Thanks for your help.

Jeanette

P.S.  My 2nd three month check-up is on Monday.  Praying I am still in NED.

    Donating wigs

The cancer center where I live takes them so that's a good place to start.  I also wonder if LOOK GOOD.....FEEL BETTER takes them.  I know the one here has them as well as other head coverings to give out free.  Your cancer center could give you info about that too.

heres hoping you'll learn you are still NED

    I found the local American

I found the local American Cancer Society office and donated mine there.  They clean, and if needed, restyle.  Not all women are lucky to have insurance to cover this expense and wanted to help other women.

Jeanette, good luck on your follow up.  These visits get easier as time goes on, but my blood pressure will never tell you that!

Wishing you good results on your check up onMonday.

The American Cancer Society may be interested in the wigs.  The Look Good, Feel Good program had wigs to give to participants when I attended.   Or the Cancer center may be interested in the wigs, too.  It's nice your cousin wants to share them.

    Wishing you the best, Jeanette

Jeanette, I hope your appt. today goes well!  You are about 2.5 months ahead of me with your last treatment.  I see my gyn oncologist next week, 8/19/14, for my 5 month checkup post-chemo (I had the same chemo combination that you had and my last one was 3/20/14.  I had no radiation).    I was NED after three months and so far I am feeling great and am hopeful that I remain NED.  Like you, I was also diagnosed with stage 3A UPSC with positive washings.  I don't know about how others deal with their upcoming doctor's appts, CAT scans, etc., but between appts. I feel like I am on vacation and can forget about cancer for a while. Now that my next appointment is next week, I can see that I am beginning to feel anxious about it.  This whole cancer thing is sure frightening to deal with, but we are still here, aren't we??  We can do this, and we must!

Wishing you a great day with a great outcome,

    Cathy

    My Results

Just an update.  I sent an email to Gilda's Club and one to Look Good.....Feel Better.   The reply from Gilda's Club said that my local cancer center has a wig bank that can be used free of charge.  Haven't heard from Look Good....Feel Better yet but am thinking it will be the same thing since the same cancer center has the Look Good....Feel Better program.

As for my appointment, I am still NED.   YAY!!!!!!!!   Cathy, I actually look forward to the appointments because it's that much closer to the end of the 5 years and it's my "reinforcement" that I'm still ok, especially since I feel good for the most part.  When I go in because I don't feel good, that's when I will be more anxious.  I think about cancer everyday.  Not as much now as before but still everyday.   Best wishes Cathy on your next appointment.

I like your positive point of view, Jeanette!

I like your positive point of view, Jeanette!  I am now telling myself to look forward to my 5 month check-up next week as I am feeling absolutely wonderful.  If all goes well, as I expect that it will, then I am 4 years and 7 months closer to that 5 year mark.  Yay!!!!!  Thanks for helping me see the positive in all this!

Cathy - You are headed in the right direction

Love to hear it.  4 years and 7 months closer to that 5 year mark.    Thanks for sharing Cathy.  This check-up wasn't as bad as the 1st three month check-up  because I knew what to expect and was feeling good.  The first one, I was more nervous because it was further from chemo. than what I had been and that bothered me with the "what if's" and was nervous about the CA125 even though it's not a good marker for me.    You will have a good report.  I'm rooting for you.  I hope that's the correct spelling of "rooting".   :)
